PDQ General Hardware: Stops, Holders, Latches and Door Accessories

PDQ General Hardware is the maker's line of everyday accessories that complete a commercial door opening. It covers wall stops and holders, floor stops, kick down stops, hinge stops and roller stops, along with roller latches, ball catches, door guards, latch protectors, coat and wardrobe hooks, door silencers, a door viewer, a privacy door latch and strikes.

Many models carry an ANSI type designation in the PDQ price book, and each is offered in a set of standard architectural finishes such as bright brass, dark oxidized satin bronze, satin chrome, aluminum or duro bronze. The finishes available vary by model.

PDQ 245626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a hinge stop like the PDQ 245 and when would I use one instead of a wall or floor stop?
A hinge stop mounts at the hinge itself rather than on the wall or the floor, so it limits how far the door swings without putting a bumper on a finished wall surface or an obstruction in the floor. The PDQ 245 is the 5 inch hinge stop in PDQ's general hardware line, carrying ANSI Type L02223. Pick it where a wall stop has nothing solid to land on (glass, a corner, a return wall) and a floor stop would be a trip hazard or a mop obstruction. If you have good wall backing behind the door at strike height, a wall stop is the simpler and cheaper install; if the door needs to be held open, a floor stop with hold open or a door holder is the right call instead.
2) What finishes does the PDQ 245 hinge stop come in, and what are the part numbers?
Three finishes: 605 bright brass (part 245605), 613E dark oxidized satin bronze (245613E), and 626 satin chrome (245626). Satin chrome 626 is the usual match for brushed stainless lever trim and aluminum frames; 613E reads as a dark oiled bronze against bronze-anodized storefront; 605 is the polished brass look. The finish code is simply appended to the 245 model number when you order.
3) Is the PDQ 245 hinge stop rated for commercial door traffic?
It is a commercial-grade accessory, listed by PDQ as commercial rather than residential and part of the general hardware line meant to complete a commercial door opening. For a property manager standardizing stops across a building, the ANSI Type L02223 designation is what to put on the hardware schedule so every opening gets the same part.
4) Does the PDQ 245 hinge stop hold the door open, or only stop the swing?
The 245 is a stop only, with no hold-open feature. If you need the door to stay open, PDQ's general hardware line also includes floor stops with a keeper or hold open and a door holder with stop, and those are the correct choices for hold-open duty.
5) What is the difference between the PDQ 245 hinge stop and PDQ's 4 inch and 5 inch kick down stops?
Different jobs, despite similar lengths. The 245 is a hinge-mounted swing stop at 5 inches, ANSI Type L02223. The kick down stops, offered in 4 inch and 5 inch lengths, mount on the door face and are kicked down by foot onto the floor to hold the door open where you want it. Use the hinge stop to limit the swing permanently; use a kick down when staff need to prop the door temporarily.
6) Can I order one hinge stop as a sample to match existing hardware before doing the whole building?
Each finish of the 245 is its own PDQ part number, so you can order a single 245626 satin chrome, 245605 bright brass, or 245613E dark oxidized satin bronze and hold it against what is already on the doors. That matters on retrofit work, where 613E in particular can look very different next to an older bronze that has weathered.
