Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Blade Stop Spacer do?
The Blade Stop Spacer shims PDQ parallel arm brackets to clear a 1/2" blade stop. When a Blade Stop Spacer is used in a narrow frame application, the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket must also be used.
Which arms are for parallel arm mounting only?
PDQ lists the Extra Duty Arm, Door Saver Arm, Door Saver Hold Open Arm and Extra Duty Arm Hold Open as parallel arm (PA) applications only. The Regular Arm and Hold Open Arm can be mounted regular, top jamb or parallel arm, with a parallel arm bracket required for PA mounting.

PDQ 559018695 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the PDQ 559018 parallel arm drop plate actually do on a door closer install?
The PDQ 559018 (DPPA) is a drop plate for parallel arm mounted closers. It lowers the closer body below the head of the frame so you still have a flat mounting surface when the frame face or the stop does not give you enough room to screw the closer shoe directly to the door's top rail area. Genuine PDQ part number 559018.
2) Do mounting screws come with the PDQ 559018 drop plate?
Order fasteners separately. PDQ offers matching screw packs for its mounting plates, plus self drilling self tapping screws, tamper resistant screws and sex nuts and bolts for through bolting 1-3/4 inch doors. If the opening is a through bolt job, add the sex nuts and bolts to the order with the plate.
3) I have a 1/2 inch blade stop on the frame. Will the drop plate alone take care of the clearance?
No. For a 1/2 inch blade stop, PDQ uses the Blade Stop Spacer, which shims the parallel arm bracket to clear the stop. The 559018 drop plate is a separate part addressing mounting surface, not blade stop clearance. And if the blade stop spacer is used on a narrow frame, the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket is required as well.
4) What finishes does the PDQ 559018 drop plate come in, and how do I order the right one?
Four finishes: 689 Aluminum, 693 Black, 695 Duro Bronze and 696 Gold. The finish code is appended to the base number, so the aluminum plate orders as 559018689, black as 559018693, duro bronze as 559018695 and gold as 559018696. Match the code to the closer body already on the opening so the plate does not read as a mismatched patch under the cover.
5) Do I need a drop plate or a parallel arm bracket for a PDQ 5500 closer?
They solve two different problems. The parallel arm bracket is what lets a regular or hold open arm be mounted parallel arm at all. The 559018 drop plate is about mounting surface, it drops the closer body down when the frame soffit does not offer enough flat area. On some openings you need both: the bracket for the arm configuration and the plate for the body.
6) If I am using an Extra Duty or Door Saver arm, does the 559018 drop plate still apply?
Those arms are parallel arm applications only, per PDQ, which is exactly the mounting the 559018 DPPA is made for. The Extra Duty Arm, Door Saver Arm, Door Saver Hold Open Arm and Extra Duty Hold Open Arm are all PA only. Regular and Hold Open arms can go regular, top jamb or parallel arm, so a drop plate is only in play on those when you choose PA mounting.
