PDQ 631212CVRB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is PDQ part 631212CVRB?
It's the bottom rod for a PDQ concealed vertical rod exit device, sold as a genuine PDQ replacement part under part number 631212CVRB. The bottom rod is the lower half of the concealed rod assembly inside the door, driving the bottom latch down into the threshold strike. It is a single component, not a complete rod set or a device.
2) Which PDQ exit devices does the 631212CVRB bottom rod fit?
It's a factory part for PDQ 6300 Series wide stile and 6400 Series narrow stile exit devices, specifically the concealed vertical rod configuration. If your device is a rim, surface vertical rod or mortise PDQ unit, this rod is not the part you need, those configurations use different hardware.
3) Can I repair a concealed vertical rod exit device without replacing the whole unit?
Yes. PDQ supplies the 6300 and 6400 Series as serviceable parts, including head chassis assemblies, latchbolts, rods and connectors, push bars, covers and end caps, strikes and shims, screwpacks and signal switches. A failed or bent bottom rod like the 631212CVRB can be swapped out and the installed device stays in the door.
4) My PDQ device won't latch at the floor. Is the bottom rod the part to replace?
On a concealed vertical rod device the bottom latch is driven by the bottom rod, so a bent, disconnected or worn rod is a common cause of a device that latches at the head but not the floor. The 631212CVRB is the genuine PDQ concealed vertical rod bottom rod for that repair. PDQ also supplies latchbolts, rod connectors, strikes and shims separately if the fault turns out to be at the latch or strike instead.
5) Will a generic aftermarket rod work in place of PDQ 631212CVRB?
Use the genuine PDQ part. Concealed rod lengths and connector ends are specific to the device family, and the 631212CVRB is the factory bottom rod for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series concealed vertical rod devices. On a fire rated opening, substituting non-factory internals is how a listed assembly stops being a listed assembly.
6) I want to add cylinder dogging or an alarm to my PDQ 6300 device. Is that a separate part from the rod?
Yes, those are separate conversion kits. PDQ offers dogging and alarm conversion kits that add cylinder dogging or an alarm to an already installed 6300 or 6400 Series device. The 631212CVRB covers only the concealed vertical rod bottom rod, so order the conversion kit alongside it if you're doing both jobs at once.
