PDQ 639045 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is PDQ part 639045?
PDQ 639045 is the screwpack for the surface vertical rod latch on PDQ exit devices, meaning the fastener set that mounts the latch, not the latch itself. If your latch body is damaged you need the latch part; 639045 only covers the screws for it.
2) Which PDQ exit devices does the 639045 screwpack fit?
It is a factory part for PDQ 6300 Series wide stile and 6400 Series narrow stile exit devices, specifically the surface vertical rod configuration. If the opening has a rim, concealed vertical rod or mortise device, this particular screwpack is not the one for it.
3) Is this a genuine PDQ part or an aftermarket substitute?
Genuine PDQ, part number 639045, supplied as a factory replacement part for the 6300 and 6400 Series devices. That matters on fire rated and panic rated openings, where substituting non-factory fasteners on a listed device can put the listing in question.
4) Can I service a PDQ surface vertical rod exit device without replacing the whole unit?
Yes. PDQ publishes component level parts for the 6300 and 6400 Series, including head chassis assemblies, latchbolts, rods and connectors, push bars, covers and end caps, strikes and shims, and screwpacks like 639045. Dogging and alarm conversion kits are also available to upgrade a device already hung on the door.
5) I need to add cylinder dogging to an installed PDQ 6300 exit device. Is this the part?
No. 639045 is only the screwpack for the surface vertical rod latch. Cylinder dogging is added with a PDQ dogging conversion kit, which is a separate part in the 6300/6400 Series parts range, as is the alarm conversion kit.
6) Is the PDQ 639045 screwpack suitable for commercial openings?
It is a commercial door hardware part, intended for PDQ panic hardware on commercial exit openings rather than residential use.
