PDQ PDQ-85004 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which PDQ electrified hinges does the 85004 mortar guard go with?
It is listed as an accessory to PDQ's electrified hinges with a concealed electric through-wire, in both the EL4 (4 wire) and EL8 (8 wire) versions. If you are specifying either of those for an electric strike, electrified lock or exit device tie-in, the 85004 is the matching guard for the frame prep.
2) What does the PDQ 85004 mortar guard actually do on an electrified hinge installation?
The PDQ 85004 is a mortar guard used with PDQ's electrified hinges. It protects the hinge pocket and the concealed through-wire routing in the frame during construction, so grout, mortar or debris does not get into the prep before the hinge and wire harness go in. It is a genuine PDQ part, number 85004, ordered as an accessory rather than as part of the hinge itself.
3) Does the PDQ 85004 include the electrified hinge, or is it the guard only?
Guard only. The 85004 is a single accessory piece; the EL4 or EL8 electrified hinge is ordered separately. On a new frame you would typically order the hinge and the mortar guard together so the prep is protected before the hinge is hung.
4) I need to order a replacement mortar guard for a PDQ electric hinge prep. What part number do I ask for?
Ask for PDQ 85004. That is the manufacturer part number for the mortar guard used with PDQ electrified hinges, and it is the genuine PDQ part rather than a generic substitute.
5) Is the PDQ 85004 a commercial door hardware item or something for residential work?
Commercial. The 85004 sits in PDQ's door hardware line under electrified hardware, which is the context it is built for: hollow metal or grouted frames on commercial openings where an electrified hinge carries power through the frame to the door.
