PDQ I02006 VAULT Key Blank

PDQ VAULT and High Security Keys and Key Cuts

These are PDQ factory keys for two closed key systems: the VAULT patented keying system and PDQ high security cylinders and cores. The range covers the VAULT key blank and VAULT master, grand master, great grand master, control and change key cuts, plus high security cut keys for 6-pin cylinders, 7-pin SFIC cores and 6-pin LFIC control keys on the TA keyway.

Key Features

  • VAULT keys are tapered to pass the patented VAULT door inside the core, which blocks standard keys
  • VAULT is covered by U.S. Patent #12338653 through 2044, and unauthorized duplication of VAULT keys is prohibited
  • VAULT keys also operate standard SFIC cores, so a facility can move to VAULT in phases
  • High security keys are cut at the factory; blanks for high security cylinders are not sold
  • Key cuts cover every level of a master key system, from change key up to great grand master

Technical Specifications

  • Manufacturer Part Number: I02006

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a restricted or patented keyway?
A restricted keyway uses key blanks set aside for limited use, so keys and cylinders can only be ordered with authorization. A patented keyway adds legal protection: PDQ VAULT is covered by U.S. Patent #12338653 through 2044, and only authorized distributors can supply VAULT keys and cores.

How does a master key system work?
A master key system groups locks so one key opens many doors while each door keeps its own change key. Levels run from change key to master, grand master and great grand master keys, and PDQ recommends no more than four levels.

PDQ I02006 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a PDQ VAULT key blank work in standard SFIC cores, or only in VAULT cores?
PDQ VAULT keys operate standard SFIC cores as well as VAULT cores, which is what lets a facility convert to VAULT in phases instead of all at once. The reverse is not true: a standard key cannot pass the patented VAULT door inside a VAULT core, so once a VAULT core goes in that opening, only VAULT keys will run it.
2) Can I have PDQ I02006 VAULT keys duplicated at a hardware store or by my locksmith?
No. The I02006 is a VAULT blank on a patented keying system, U.S. Patent #12338653 running through 2044, and unauthorized duplication is prohibited. Blanks and cores come only through authorized distributors, so additional keys are ordered rather than cut off the shelf. That is the point of the system for a property manager or institutional buyer: key control that cannot be defeated at a kiosk.
3) Is the I02006 a blank I can cut myself, or does PDQ cut it at the factory?
I02006 is the uncut VAULT key blank, intended for cutting to a VAULT keying bitting. VAULT master, grand master, great grand master, control and change key cuts are also supplied as factory cuts. Note the difference on the high security side: PDQ high security keys are only sold factory cut, and blanks for high security cylinders are not sold at all.
4) We already have SFIC cores across the building. Can we move to VAULT without rekeying everything at once?
Yes, and that is the intended path. Because VAULT keys operate standard SFIC cores, you can swap VAULT cores into the highest-priority openings first and issue VAULT keys that still run the remaining standard cores. As budget allows, the rest of the openings convert, and the keys already in your tenants' and techs' hands keep working throughout.
5) What is the difference between PDQ VAULT and PDQ high security cylinders when I am choosing a key system?
Two separate closed systems. VAULT is the patented keying system, with its own tapered blank (I02006) and factory cuts at every level, and its keys also run standard SFIC cores. PDQ high security covers 6-pin cylinders, 7-pin SFIC cores and 6-pin LFIC control keys on the TA keyway, and those keys are factory cut only with no blanks offered. Pick VAULT if you want patent-protected key control you can phase in over existing SFIC housings.
6) How many levels of masterkeying can I build with PDQ VAULT keys?
Cuts are available from change key up through master, grand master and great grand master, plus control keys for removing cores. PDQ recommends no more than four levels in a system, which keeps the pinning workable across a building or campus. Order the change keys per opening and the master levels per grouping you actually need to walk.
7) Why do VAULT keys look tapered compared to a normal SFIC key?
The taper is functional, not cosmetic. VAULT cores contain a patented door inside the keyway, and only the tapered VAULT key profile passes it. A standard flat-profile SFIC key is physically blocked, so no off-the-shelf blank will enter a VAULT core.
8) Is the PDQ I02006 key blank for commercial use or residential locks?
Commercial. The I02006 VAULT blank is part of PDQ's commercial door hardware line and is built around SFIC-style cylinders and cores, the format used in multi-family, institutional and MRO keying programs rather than residential entry sets.
