Watts 790200 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will Watts 790200 Brownline pipe handle acid drainage from a lab sink?
That's exactly what it's built for. The 790200 is polypropylene acid waste pipe, and PP is what labs, hospitals and schools use for chemical drainage lines because the plastic itself resists the acids and solvents that eat cast iron and copper. It's a drainage pipe, not a pressure pipe, so use it on waste and vent runs.
2) Can I glue Watts Brownline polypropylene acid waste pipe with PVC solvent cement?
No. Polypropylene doesn't solvent weld. PP acid waste systems are joined by mechanical or fusion methods using fittings made for the same system, so plan on Brownline PP fittings and the matching joining method rather than any PVC or ABS cement. Solvent cement on this pipe will not make a joint at all.
3) What is the actual outside diameter of 1-1/2 inch Watts Brownline PP pipe?
1.90 inches OD on the 1-1/2 inch nominal size, with a 0.20 inch wall. Those are the numbers you need when you're checking clearance through a sleeve, a joist bore or a fire-stop collar, since the nominal 1-1/2 inch call-out is not the size you're actually pushing through the hole.
4) How long is each length of Watts 790200 pipe, and how do I figure quantity for a run?
Each stick is 10 feet. Take your total developed length of acid waste run, divide by 10, and add for cut waste at fixture drops and changes of direction. Order the fittings separately, this is plain pipe only.
5) Can I use this pipe for the water supply side of a lab bench?
No. The 790200 is acid waste drainage pipe. Keep it on gravity waste and vent lines, and use a pressure rated product for supply.
