1) Is the Topaz P2 a bulb or a socket?
It's a lampholder, the socket the bulb threads into, not a lamp itself. Topaz model P2 takes medium base lamps and gives the fixture both mechanical support for the bulb and the electrical connection to it. If you need the bulb, order that separately.
2) Will a standard A19 household bulb screw into the Topaz P2 lamp holder?
Yes. Medium base is the standard screw base on common A19 lamps, so an A19 like the Sylvania 79292 14-watt 2700K LED threads straight in. Pin-base fluorescent tubes such as the Sylvania 22438 T8 will not, they need a tombstone-style holder instead.
3) Is the Topaz P2 lamp holder a replacement bulb, or does it still need a lamp?
The Topaz P2 is the holder, not the light source. It is a white plastic medium base lamp holder that supports the lamp mechanically and carries the electrical connection to it, so a medium base lamp still has to be threaded into it. If what you actually need is the lamp itself, a medium base A19 option is the Sylvania 79292 Contractor Series LED lamp; for a dimmable lamp there is the Sylvania Ultra LED series. Order the P2 when the socket in the fixture has failed and the bulb is fine.
4) Can I use the Topaz P2 to replace a failed socket in an existing fixture instead of scrapping the fixture?
That's one of its intended uses. The P2 is built for retrofit and replacement work as well as new construction rough-in, so a fixture with a cracked or burned medium base socket can be brought back with a new holder. The replacement socket has to match the original's medium base and the fixture's mounting arrangement.
5) If I am standardizing a facility lamp replacement program, what pairs with the Topaz P2 holder?
The Topaz P2 is a medium base plastic holder in a white finish, intended for retrofit and new fixture work, and it sets the base type for whatever lamp goes in it.
