Sta-Kon RA4RR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RA4RR ring terminal take?
The RA4RR is sized for conductors from 0.5 to 1.5 mm2, which is roughly 22 to 16 AWG in US sizing. Anything heavier than 1.5 mm2 will not seat properly in the barrel and should go into a larger terminal.
2) Is the insulation on the RA4RR terminal nylon or vinyl?
Neither. The RA4RR uses a polycarbonate insulating sleeve, which is a rigid thermoplastic rather than the soft PVC found on vinyl-insulated lugs. That matters if you are pulling terminated conductors through a wireway or stacking lugs on a stud, where a vinyl sleeve can deform.
3) What part number do I order for the Sta-Kon red polycarbonate ring terminal?
Order by manufacturer part number RA4RR, Sta-Kon brand. It is a single-model item, so there are no finish or size options to specify beyond the one part number.
4) Do I need a special crimper for Sta-Kon RA4RR ring terminals?
The RA4RR is a crimp-style ring terminal, so it needs a crimp tool matched to insulated terminals in the 0.5 to 1.5 mm2 range. The tool is not supplied with the terminals. Soldering is not a substitute on a polycarbonate-insulated lug, since the sleeve sits over the barrel.
5) Why is the Sta-Kon RA4RR ring terminal red, and does the color mean anything?
Red is the standard color code for the small wire range on insulated terminals, and the RA4RR carries it because it covers 0.5 to 1.5 mm2 conductors. On a panel it lets an electrician confirm at a glance that the right gauge range was terminated, without pulling the lug off the stud.
6) Where are Sta-Kon RA4RR ring terminals made?
Country of origin on the RA4RR is Sweden. Procurement buyers tracking origin for bid documentation or trade compliance can record it on that basis.
