BEST 671DR-3 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the BEST PHI 671DR dummy touch bar actually latch the door?
No. The 671DR is a rigid dummy pushbar with no latching mechanism at all. The touchpad is fixed and does not move. It exists to put a matching push bar on an inactive leaf or a non-latching door so the pair looks the same from the pull side. If you need the door to latch and release, you need a working Apex 2000 exit device, not the 671DR.
2) What stile width and door thickness does the PHI 671DR dummy bar need?
Wide stile only: a minimum of 4-1/2 inches of stile width is required for proper mounting. Door thickness range is 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches, so it covers standard commercial doors and thicker leaves. On an aluminum storefront door with a narrow 2 inch stile it will not mount; that opening needs a narrow stile dummy bar instead.
3) Can I use the PHI 671DR on a fire rated door pair?
The 671DR is not fire rated. For a labeled opening, the hardware on both leaves has to carry the appropriate listing, so this dummy bar is not the part for that application. Use it on non-rated inactive leaves and non-latching doors.
4) Do I have to order the 671DR handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The 671DR is non-handed and completely field reversible, so one part covers left and right hand leaves. That also means if the opening gets reconfigured later, the same bar can be flipped rather than replaced.
5) What sizes and finishes does the Apex 2000 671DR dummy touch bar come in?
Two lengths, 3 foot and 4 foot, each offered in 628 satin aluminum and 630 satin stainless steel. Pick the length that matches the working exit device on the active leaf so the two bars line up visually. Base material follows the finish, aluminum, brass, bronze or stainless depending on selection.
6) Do mounting screws come with the 671DR, or do I need to order fasteners separately?
Fasteners are included as standard: machine screws plus full-thread wood and sheet metal screws, which covers hollow metal and wood doors out of the box. If the job calls for through-bolting or tamper resistance, sex nuts and bolts (SNB) and Torx security screws (SEC) are available as options and have to be specified on the order.
7) My building has Apex 2000 exit devices on the active doors. Will a dummy bar match them?
That is what the 671DR is for. It is part of the Apex 2000 Series, so the pushbar profile and finish line up with the working devices on the rest of the openings. Order it in the same finish, 628 or 630, and in the length matching the device on the active leaf.
8) Where does a rigid dummy push bar like the 671DR get used instead of a real exit device?
Three common cases: the inactive leaf of a door pair where only one side needs to open, a door that is pushed open and held by a closer with no latch, and an opening where the owner wants the exit device look on both leaves for appearance. Any door that is part of an egress path and needs to unlatch under push should get a functioning device, not a dummy.
