Ideal Industries 31-849 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How much pull can the IDEAL 31-849 rope take before it breaks?
Rated tensile strength is 7,650 lbs. That is the rope's breaking strength, not a working load, so size your pull against it with the safety factor your spec or practice calls for. For most hand and tugger pulls through conduit, 7,650 lbs of tensile capacity in a 5/8 inch line leaves plenty of margin.
2) Will polypropylene pulling rope stretch or rot if it sits in a damp vault or gets left outside?
No. The Pro-Pull line is polypropylene and will not stretch, rot or mildew, so it holds up in wet pull boxes, underground vaults and outdoor storage. The no-stretch property also matters during the pull itself: the line transmits tension to the cable instead of absorbing it and springing back.
3) Can electricians handle this pulling rope bare-handed without getting splinters?
Yes. The rope has a non-sliver surface and is meant to be handled without gloves, which is the practical difference from a stiff twisted poly line that frays and bites. It is also described as lightweight, so a 600 foot reel is manageable for one person moving between pull points.
4) What part number do I order for the IDEAL Pro-Pull rope reel?
Order IDEAL Industries model 31-849 for the Pro-Pull polypropylene rope. It ships as a single configuration, 5/8 inch by 600 feet on a reel, so there are no length or color options to specify on the order.
