RAB BAD6 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I pick between the RAB BAD4, BAD5 and BAD6 pole adapter?
Pick by the square pole you are mounting to, not by the fixture. BAD4 goes on a 4 inch square pole, BAD5 on a 5 inch, BAD6 on a 6 inch. All three put the same 2-5/8 inch tenon on top, so the fixture side of the decision doesn't change. Measure the flat-to-flat width of the pole shaft at the top before you order.
2) Will a slipfitter luminaire made for a 2-3/8 inch tenon work on this RAB adapter?
No. The RAB BAD adapter terminates in a 2-5/8 inch tenon, which is the larger of the two common outdoor lighting tenon sizes. A slipfitter bored for 2-3/8 inch pipe will not slide over it. You need a fixture or slipfitter sized for 2-5/8 inch tenon, or a separate reducer.
3) I have a square pole with no tenon and a fixture that only mounts on a tenon. What do I need?
That is exactly the gap the RAB BAD adapter fills. It bolts to the top of a 4, 5 or 6 inch square pole and gives you a 2-5/8 inch tenon for a slipfitter-mount luminaire, so you don't have to replace the pole or the head. Order by pole width: BAD4, BAD5 or BAD6.
4) Does the RAB BAD pole adapter come with the bolts, or do I need to order hardware separately?
Mounting hardware is included in the kit, so you are not sourcing bolts at the pole base. What is not included is the luminaire or its slipfitter, and the adapter itself is not a light fixture.
5) How much height does this tenon adapter add on top of my pole?
The RAB BAD adapter measures 10.9 inches in height with a 4.8 by 4.8 inch footprint. Factor that 10.9 inches into your mounting height calculation, since it stacks between the pole top and the fixture, and the tenon portion is part of that dimension.
6) Will the bronze adapter match my existing bronze parking lot poles and fixtures?
The adapter is finished in bronze, which is the standard dark bronze family used across most commercial area lighting poles and heads, so it blends with an existing bronze run rather than standing out as a bare metal collar at the pole top. All three pole sizes come in bronze.
7) Can I use this RAB adapter outdoors on a parking lot or street light pole?
Yes, that is its intended use. It is built for outdoor pole-to-fixture connections in parking lot and area lighting, street and roadway lighting, security and perimeter lighting, and landscape work, with a corrosion-resistant bronze coating for weather exposure.
