RAB TPPB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What finishes does the RAB Turtle Power Post landscape fixture come in, and what are the part numbers?
Three finishes on the RAB Turtle Power Post: black (TPPB), verde green (TPPVG), and white (TPPW). Order by that suffix, since the finish is the only thing that changes between them. Verde green is the one to pick when the fixture has to blend into planting beds; black disappears at night along a walk; white reads as a deliberate architectural element on a lighter facade or hardscape.
2) How tall does the RAB Turtle Power Post sit above grade, and how much room does it need in a planting bed?
The Turtle Power Post stands 26 inches overall and occupies a 7.5 by 3.9 inch footprint. That height puts the light source above low groundcover and seasonal perennials, so it keeps throwing onto the walk instead of getting buried by mid-season growth. For bed layout, allow for the 7.5 by 3.9 inch base plus your excavation and conduit sweep, and keep it far enough off the walk edge that a snow blade or string trimmer never reaches it.
3) Is a turtle-style path light the right fixture for a walkway, or should I use a bollard?
A turtle-style post light like the RAB Turtle Power Post shields the source and pushes light down and out, which is what you want along a residential walk, a courtyard path, or a landscaped entry where a visible lamp in someone's eye line would be the problem. At 26 inches it lights the walking surface and the bed edge, not the space around it. If you need to light a wider commercial walk, a parking lot connector, or anything carrying real pedestrian volume, a taller bollard or an area light covers more ground per fixture and takes abuse better. Turtles are for definition and safe footing, not for illuminating a whole zone.
