1) Can the RACO 189 4 in. square steel box be mounted with NM cable and a nail-on bracket?
No. The RACO 189 ships with no bracket and is set up for conduit wiring systems, so it is supported by the raceway or by hardware you supply through the box's own mounting holes. If you are roughing in NM cable on studs in new residential work, you want a bracketed or nail-on box instead. The 189 belongs where EMT or rigid conduit carries the support.
2) Does the RACO 189 come with a cover or plaster ring?
No cover or ring is part of the 189. It is the box body only, so order the 4 in. square cover your application needs separately: a flat blank cover for a junction, or a raised plaster ring sized to your wall finish depth and device count for a receptacle or switch.
3) Is the RACO 189 deep enough to hold a device plus pigtails, or is it only a junction box?
