1) What conduit sizes will the RACO 256 square box accept without reducing washers?
The 256 takes 1/2 in. or 3/4 in. conduit straight out of the box. Sixteen of its knockouts are 1/2 in. and 3/4 in. concentric, so you punch out the inner ring for 1/2 in. or the full ring for 3/4 in. There is also one additional plain 1/2 in. knockout. No reducing washers needed to mix sizes on the same box.
2) How deep is the RACO 256 box, and why would I use it instead of a standard square box?
It is 3-1/2 in. deep, which is well past the usual 1-1/2 to 2-1/8 in. square box depth. That extra depth is what buys you the box fill for more conductors and devices, so on a junction or pull point with several conduits landing you can often skip an extension ring entirely. If you only have a couple of conductors, a shallower box is easier to set in the wall cavity.
