RACO 7232RAC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will standard 4 in. square covers and device plates fit the RACO 7232RAC box?
Yes. The 7232RAC is a 4 in. square box, so it takes the standard 4 in. square cover line, including blank covers, single-device and duplex raised covers, and plaster rings. The square profile is what makes that interchangeability work, so you can mount a device or close it off as a junction with off-the-shelf parts.
2) How deep is the RACO 7232RAC, and is there room for several cable splices?
The box measures 2-5/8 in. deep (2.625 in). That is the deeper end of the 4 in. square range and gives you working room for multiple cable splices, pigtails, and a device sitting in the front without crowding the conductors.
3) Is a nonmetallic box like the RACO 7232RAC acceptable for a commercial job, or do I need steel?
The 7232RAC is a UL Listed nonmetallic 4 in. square cable box, and the nonmetallic construction is what you want where corrosion resistance matters, such as damp locations or chemically aggressive spaces. Where your drawings or the local inspector call for a metallic raceway system with bonding continuity through the box, a steel box is the right call instead. For nonmetallic cable wiring in residential and light commercial work, this one is the intended product.
4) What is the exact part number to order for the RACO 4 in. square nonmetallic cable box?
Order RACO 7232RAC. That single manufacturer part number covers the 4 in. square nonmetallic cable box at 2-5/8 in. depth, so there are no finish or size suffixes to specify.
5) Can I use the RACO 7232RAC as a junction box with no device in it?
Yes. The 7232RAC works either way: splice and cap off the conductors with a blank 4 in. square cover for a pure junction point, or add a raised device cover and mount a receptacle, switch, or fixture. The 2-5/8 in. depth is what makes it practical for the splice-heavy case.
6) Where can I get the manufacturer spec sheet for the RACO 7232RAC?
Hubbell publishes a spec sheet for the 7232RAC at https://hubbellcdn.com/specsheet/RACO-7232RAC-SPEC-EN.pdf. That is the document to attach to a submittal package when a spec writer asks for box data.
