RACO 859 4-11/16" to 4SQ Adapter Ring, Pack of 100

The RACO 859 is a 4-11/16" to 4SQ adapter ring built to adapt a 4-11/16" square electrical outlet box so that it can accept standard 4" square (4SQ) device rings, plaster rings, and covers. Electrical crews frequently encounter a mix of box sizes on a single job, and this adapter ring lets them standardize on common 4" square device hardware instead of stocking a separate ring or cover for every box dimension. Because it mounts directly to the larger 4-11/16" square box opening, the RACO 859 keeps device and cover installation consistent from box to box, simplifying both material planning and field work. Each unit ships in a bulk pack of 100, giving contractors, electrical distributors, and maintenance crews a ready supply for ongoing commercial and residential wiring projects.

Key Features

  • Size Conversion: Adapts a 4-11/16" square electrical box opening to accept 4" square (4SQ) device rings, plaster rings, and covers, eliminating the need for box-specific hardware.
  • Bulk Contractor Pack: Sold in a case quantity of 100 adapter rings, supporting high-volume installation work and reducing the number of reorders needed on active job sites.
  • Standardized Fit: Engineered to mate with common 4-11/16" square box openings and standard 4" square device ring hardware for a consistent, repeatable installation every time.
  • Simplified Inventory: Allows electricians to pair a single device ring or cover size with boxes of differing dimensions, reducing the number of unique parts carried on the truck or stocked in the warehouse.
  • Field-Ready Design: A straightforward drop-in fit speeds installation and reduces on-site fabrication or modification of box openings during rough-in.
  • Versatile Application: Suited to a wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential electrical box configurations wherever 4-11/16" boxes are paired with 4" square device hardware.

Why RACO?

RACO adapter rings are built to give electrical contractors a reliable, repeatable fit between box and device hardware, helping crews standardize parts across a project instead of stocking a cover or ring for every box size. The 859's bulk pack of 100 makes it easy to keep this commonly needed adapter on hand for ongoing commercial and residential electrical work, reducing trips back to the supply house mid-project. Choosing RACO for electrical box hardware helps electricians and distributors maintain consistent fit and dependable performance across professional installations.

RACO RACO859 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the RACO 859 adapter ring actually do?
The RACO 859 is an adapter ring that lets a 4-11/16 inch square electrical box accept standard 4 inch square (4SQ) device rings, plaster rings, and covers. It mounts to the larger 4-11/16 inch box opening and reduces it down, so the device hardware you put on top is the common 4SQ size instead of a box-specific cover.
2) Is the RACO 859 sold individually or in a case?
Bulk only. The 859 ships as a pack of 100 adapter rings, which is the case quantity intended for contractors, distributors, and maintenance crews running volume rough-in work. If you only need a handful for a single retrofit, you are still buying the 100-count pack.
3) Will the 859 work the other way, adapting a 4-square box to 4-11/16 covers?
No. The 859 goes one direction only: it steps a 4-11/16 inch square box opening down to 4 inch square device hardware. A 4 inch square box is the smaller of the two, so there is nothing for this ring to reduce, and you would need a cover sized for the 4SQ box instead.
4) Can I use the 859 on an existing box during a retrofit, or is it rough-in only?
Both. The 859 is a drop-in fit to the 4-11/16 square box opening, so it works on new construction rough-in and on renovation or retrofit jobs where an existing 4-11/16 box has to take a 4 inch square device ring or cover. No modification of the box opening is required.
