Klein Tools 59980 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Klein Tools 59980 suspension fit any hard hat, or only MSA V-Gard?
It's built for MSA V-Gard hard hats and caps only. The 59980 is a replacement V-Gard Fas-Trac suspension, so it drops into V-Gard shells; it is not a universal suspension and won't fit other brands' shells.
2) Is the Klein 59980 a ratcheting suspension or a pin-lock type?
Ratcheting. It's a 4-point Fas-Trac ratcheting suspension, so the wearer sizes it with the rear knob instead of pulling and re-setting a pin-lock headband. If your crew's existing hats use pin-lock suspensions, swapping to this changes how they adjust.
3) How many suspension attachment points does the Klein 59980 have?
Four. The Fas-Trac design is a 4-point suspension, which is what V-Gard shells are prepped for. A shell drilled for a 4-point suspension needs a 4-point replacement, not a 6-point.
4) Does the Klein 59980 replacement suspension come with a chin strap or sweatband?
No. Accessories are sold separately, so the 59980 ships as the suspension itself. Chin straps, sweatbands, and other V-Gard add-ons have to be ordered on their own.
5) What part number do I order to re-suspend a crew of MSA V-Gard hard hats?
Klein Tools 59980. It's the replacement V-Gard Fas-Trac 4-point ratcheting suspension in standard size, so one MPN covers every V-Gard shell in the fleet. Order one per hat being refreshed; straps and pads are separate items.
6) Is there more than one size of the Klein 59980 hard hat suspension?
One size only. The 59980 is the standard size, so for a fleet of V-Gard hats you order the same part number for every hat rather than sizing per wearer.
