Ridgid 68933 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Ridgid K9-102 nylon brush work with my FlexShaft machine's 1/4 inch cable?
Yes. The K9-102 (also marked K9-12, part 68933) is sized for 1/4 inch (6mm) FlexShaft cable and is intended for cleaning 1.5 inch (40mm) pipe. If your machine runs a larger cable, this is not the brush for it.
2) What pipe size is the Ridgid K9-102 brush for?
It cleans 1.5 inch (40mm) wall pipe, the size you typically see on lavatory, tub and small branch drains. Running it in 2 inch or larger line means the bristles lose wall contact and you get little scouring.
3) Is a nylon brush aggressive enough, or should I use a chain knocker instead?
Nylon is the gentle end of the FlexShaft line. The K9-102's nylon bristles clear light debris and soft buildup without scouring, which is the point when the pipe is old, thin-walled or already deteriorating. For hard scale, heavy grease or root-type buildup in sound pipe, a carbide-tipped chain knocker is the tool that does the work; this brush will polish rather than cut.
4) Can I use this brush for spray lining work?
Yes, two ways. The K9-102 can spread resin during spray lining applications, and it also works as a centering guide to keep the cable positioned in the pipe while you run other FlexShaft accessories. That makes it useful for pre-lining prep as well as the lining pass itself.
5) Is K9-12 the same part as K9-102?
Same brush. Ridgid lists the model as both K9-102 and K9-12; the orderable part number is 68933. If a spec sheet or an older quote shows K9-12, that is this 1.5 inch nylon brush.
6) Does the K9-102 brush come with the FlexShaft machine or do I order it separately?
It's a separate purchase. The nylon brush is not included with the machine and is not required to run it, so you add it to the kit when you need a gentle option for 1.5 inch line.
7) How do I tell this brush apart from the rest of my FlexShaft heads in the truck?
Color. The K9-102 is white nylon, which reads clearly against the steel and carbide heads in the same accessory set, so you are not guessing which one is the gentle brush when you reach into the case.
