1) Is this ring terminal UL listed, and what is its voltage rating?
Carries both UL and CSA certification, rated 600V. That covers standard building branch circuits, control panels, and motor terminations up to 600 volts. Flammability rating is UL 94 V-0 and the part is RoHS compliant, which matters if you are submitting on a job with material-restriction requirements.
2) Is a non-insulated ring terminal the right choice, or should I use an insulated one?
Go non-insulated like the D8-38 when you intend to heat shrink over the barrel yourself, when the crimp sits in a hot spot (this one is good to 150 degrees C), or when the die set on your hand tool is cut for bare barrels. Choose an insulated nylon or vinyl ring terminal instead when you want the strain relief and dielectric cover built in and you are crimping in a panel where bare copper near adjacent terminals is a concern.
3) Can this terminal be used in a high temperature location like a motor junction box or ballast compartment?
Yes, it's rated to 150 degrees C. Because it is a bare, non-insulated copper barrel there is no plastic sleeve to soften or char, so the terminal itself is not the limiting factor in a hot enclosure. Your conductor insulation rating and the box rating become the limits.
4) How are these ring terminals packaged, and is there a minimum order quantity?
Sold each, but ordered in multiples of 25. The inner pack is 25 pieces and the outer carton holds 125. Weight works out to 1.5 lbs per 100 pieces, which is useful if you are pricing freight on a bulk MRO order.
5) Can I get these D series ring terminals on tape for a reel-fed applicator?
No. The D series non-insulated ring terminals are not offered on Mylar tape, so they are loose-piece only and have to be crimped with a hand or bench tool such as the TBM6S. If your line runs a taped strip through an automatic applicator, this is not the terminal for it.
6) Is the D8-38 tin plated or bare copper, and will it hold up in a damp electrical room?
The barrel and tongue are electrolytic copper with an electro tin plating, metallic in appearance. The tin plate is what slows oxidation at the stud face and keeps contact resistance down in humid or unconditioned spaces, so you are not fighting a green crusted lug the next time the panel is opened.
