1) What wire size does the Thomas & Betts NW10-8 ring terminal take?
The NW10-8 is sized for 12 to 10 AWG conductor. It handles solid, round, or stranded nichrome wire, which is the wire you find in toasters, heaters, and similar resistance-heating elements. If your conductor falls outside 12-10 AWG, you need a different barrel size in the NW series.
2) Will a #8 stud ring terminal like the NW10-8 fit my heater element terminal post?
The ring is drilled for a #8 stud, so it lands on a #8 screw or post and no larger. Ring dimensions are 0.66, 0.31, 0.28 and 0.51 inches with a 0.4 stock thickness, so check clearance where terminals sit close together on an element block.
3) How hot can this nichrome wire ring terminal run?
Rated to 1200 degrees F and 600V. That temperature rating is why it is built from nickel alloy and supplied non-insulated: any insulated barrel terminal would fail long before this one does. For ordinary building wire at normal ambient temperatures, a standard insulated ring terminal is the cheaper and more appropriate choice.
4) Can I crimp the NW10-8 with a standard insulated-terminal crimper?
No. The recommended tool for this terminal is the WT1377. Standard color-coded insulated crimp dies are shaped for an insulated barrel and will not form a proper crimp on this non-insulated high-temperature barrel, so order the tool along with the terminals if you don't already have one on the truck.
5) How many NW10-8 terminals come in a pack, and can I buy just a few?
They ship in multiples of 50. The inner pack is 50 pieces and the outer carton holds 250, so an order lands on 50, 100, 150 and so on rather than odd counts. Plan MRO stock accordingly if you're carrying spares for heater and toaster element repairs.
6) Can I get these nichrome ring terminals on a reel or Mylar tape for a machine feed?
No. The NW series high-temperature ring terminals are not offered on Mylar tape, so they are hand-fed and crimped loose with the WT1377 tool. If your assembly line needs taped strip feed, this is not the terminal for it.
7) Is the NW10-8 ring terminal RoHS compliant?
