Rittal Outlet Filter for Enclosure Ventilation, ABS

The Rittal Outlet Filter for Enclosure Ventilation is an ABS outlet filter designed for installation in the upper and lower sections of an enclosure to enable ventilation by convection. It is suitable for Rittal Model No. SK 3243.1xx/3243.5xx/3244.1xx/3244.5xx/3245.5xx enclosures and ships complete with a fleece filter mat. Depending on the filter configuration used, the assembly can be rated up to IP56 to IEC/EN 60 529 and NEMA Type 4X, making it a versatile option for both standard indoor panels and demanding wash-down or outdoor environments. The molded ABS housing is finished in RAL 7035 to match Rittal enclosure lines.

Rittal 3243200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will adding this outlet filter break my enclosure's NEMA 4X rating?
No, provided you use the right filter configuration. The 3243200 outlet filter is rated NEMA Type 12 with a fleece filter or folded filter, and NEMA Type 3, 3R, 4 and 4X when a hose-proof hood is added to the fleece or folded filter. For a 4X wash-down or outdoor panel, you must order the hose-proof hood separately; the filter ships with the fleece filter mat only.
2) What comes in the box with the Rittal 3243200, and what do I need to buy separately?
Supply includes the ABS outlet filter housing and a fleece filter mat, one piece per packaging unit. The folded filter, absorber mat and hose-proof hood are separate accessories. You only need them if you are chasing IP55, IP56 or NEMA 3/3R/4/4X; the as-shipped fleece configuration gives IP54 and NEMA Type 12.
3) Do I need a fan with this, or does the Rittal outlet filter work on its own?
It works without a fan. The 3243200 is an outlet filter for ventilation by convection: you install units in the upper and lower sections of the enclosure and warm air rises out the top while cooler air draws in at the bottom. If your heat load is higher than natural convection can carry, you want a powered filter fan instead, not this passive outlet.
4) What IP rating can I get from the Rittal 3243200 outlet filter?
Three levels, to IEC/EN 60 529: IP54 with a fleece filter or folded filter, IP55 with a folded filter plus absorber mat, and IP56 with a fleece or folded filter plus a hose-proof hood. The rating you land on is decided by which filter media and hood you fit, not by the housing itself.
5) Do I need two of these per enclosure?
Convection needs a path in and a path out, and this filter is specified for installation in the upper and lower sections of the enclosure. Plan on a low position for air entry and a high position for air exit; a single opening will not move air by convection.
6) Can I retrofit the 3243200 outlet filter to an SK enclosure already in service?
Yes. Retrofit filtration on SK 3243, 3244 and 3245 series enclosures is one of its stated applications, so an installed panel running hot can be vented by fitting outlet filters top and bottom rather than replacing the enclosure.
7) Will the Rittal 3243200 filter housing match the color of my existing Rittal panels?
The housing is molded ABS finished in RAL 7035, the light grey used across Rittal enclosure lines, so it blends with standard SK enclosures rather than standing out.
8) Is an ABS outlet filter suitable for a corrosive or outdoor location?
ABS is lightweight and corrosion resistant, which is why the housing is molded from it rather than sheet steel. For outdoor or wash-down duty the limiting factor is the filter configuration, not the plastic: add the hose-proof hood to reach NEMA 3R/4/4X and IP56.
