Rockwood 193 Hand/Arm Pull

The 193 is a single cast pull with two usable portions. The top portion works as a conventional hand pull; the bottom portion is shaped so someone can hook a forearm through it and pull the door open without touching it with their hands. That makes it a common pick for restroom exit doors, exam rooms, and food service areas where hand contact is the thing you are trying to avoid.

Holes are 5-15/16 inches center to center. If you are replacing an existing pull and want to reuse the prep, that is the number to measure against the door; anything else and you will be drilling fresh holes or covering old ones.

Projection off the door face is 3-3/4 inches, with 1-5/8 inches of clearance between the grip and the door. The 1-5/8 inch clearance is the gripping gap for a hand, and the deep 3-3/4 inch projection is what gives the lower loop enough depth to catch a forearm. On a door in a tight corridor, check that the 3-3/4 inches does not foul a wall or an adjacent door swing.

It is a surface applied pull fastened with #8 x 3/4 inch oval head sheet metal screws. Those are short screws, so the substrate has to hold them, hollow metal doors or a solid core wood door are the normal targets. There is no through-bolt option in the spec, so on a glass door or a door where you want push/pull back to back, this is not the right part.

The Trimco 1035 Ultimate Restroom Pull is the nearest counterpart, built for the same forearm-operated restroom exit application and listed as heavy duty. The Rockwood 193 differs in that it is a single cast brass or stainless steel unit whose top portion works as a hand pull and whose bottom portion works as an arm pull, with a 5-15/16 inch center-to-center and a 3-3/4 inch projection. Pick the 193 when you want one piece serving both grips; pick the 1035 when the specification calls out Trimco.

You can, but it is the wrong shape for it. The 193 is a short, deep, two-part pull built around the arm-pull function, with 5-15/16 inch hole centers. For a normal entrance grab, a straight or offset bar pull is a better fit, the Ives 8102HD or 8103HD heavy duty straight pulls or the Ives 8169 C style offset. For a longer grip on a glass or storefront door, look at the Sure-Loc round or square long pulls.

Yes. The 193 mounts with wood or sheet metal screws only, not through bolts, so nothing on the back side conflicts with it. A push plate on the push side is the normal pairing, the Trimco 1001-1 heavy duty 3 x 12 inch plate or the larger 1041 half-round 8 x 16 inch plate both work as the mate. Order the plate in the same finish family as the pull so the opening matches.

If the door needs a conventional offset grip rather than a dual hand/arm pull, the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull in the ADA compliant EZ series with heavy duty mounting hardware, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull at 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting. The ABH AB3310 offset flat end pull and AB3330 offset round end pull are further offset options, the AB3330 with custom length choices. The Rockwood 193 by contrast is a fixed-size unit with a 5-15/16 inch center-to-center.

The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end commercial door pull at 1 inch diameter and the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting. Both are straight grips fixed to the door. The Rockwood 193 is a commercial cast brass or stainless steel unit that adds a lower arm-pull portion for hands-free operation and mounts with #8 x 3/4 OH SMS fasteners, so verify your door construction will hold sheet metal screws in that location.

Cast brass and stainless steel. The plated brass finishes (bright brass, satin brass, satin chrome, dark oxidized bronze) are cast brass; the satin stainless versions are stainless. Cast construction is what lets the piece carry the doubled hand/arm shape in one body rather than a bent bar.
