Rockwood 481H Door Stop, 2-1/4" Projection, 2-1/2" by 1-3/4" Base, Lead Anchor Fasteners

The 481H stands 2-1/4 inches tall. That's the number that matters: the bottom of your door has to pass over a 2-1/4 inch obstruction, so the stop has to sit outside the door's swing path and contact the door face, not slide under it. On openings with tight floor clearance or a threshold in the way, a lower profile stop like the Orca 23LP Series low rise dome or the Emtek 2254 floor door bumper at 1-3/8 by 1-1/4 inches is the better shape.

Three #12-24 x 1 inch flat head machine screws and three anchors ship with the stop. The machine screw and lead anchor combination is meant for masonry or concrete, you drill for the anchor, set it, and drive the machine screw into it. Into a wood subfloor those anchors aren't what you want, plan on wood screws sized to the same holes.

Yes, order it as 481H x EXP. The EXP suffix substitutes an exterior pack screw pack, stainless steel plated to match the finish, in place of the standard hardware. That's the call for any stop going outdoors, on a loading dock, or anywhere the floor gets wet or salted.

The 481H takes the 461B replacement bumper. Rubber tip comes in standard gray or optional black, so for dark floors or a dark door bottom you can specify black rather than living with gray. Because the bumper is replaceable, a worn tip on a high traffic opening is a two dollar part, not a new stop and a new hole in the floor.

The 481H is a floor stop only. For an opening that has to hold, the Ives FS40 / FS41 / FS42 / FS43 is an automatic floor stop and holder with adjustable door-to-floor clearance, so one device does both. The SOSS MDH is a magnetic door holder and stop measuring 3-5/16 inch by 1-3/4 inch. The Orca Hardware 22HD Series goose neck floor stop is listed with a door holder function. All three change the opening from stop-only to stop-and-hold.

The Ives FS13 is the nearest match. It is a heavy-duty brass floor dome stop with a replaceable rubber bumper, the same construction idea as the 481H, which is solid cast brass with a rubber bumper and takes replacement bumper 461B. The Ives FS17 is also a heavy-duty brass floor dome stop with a rubber bumper. If the ability to swap a worn bumper matters on your openings, the FS13 and the 481H both state a replaceable bumper.

The 481H has a 2-1/4 inch projection on a 2-1/2 by 1-3/4 inch base. For a lower rise in the same walking path, the Orca Hardware 23LP Series is a low rise dome floor stop with a gray tip. The Deltana UFBS138 is a square universal floor door bumper at 1-3/8 inch in solid brass, and the Emtek 2254 floor door bumper is 1-3/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch. The Emtek 2251 is a half dome door stop. These sit closer to the floor than a 2-1/4 inch dome.

The base measures 2-1/2 by 1-3/4 inches. Three fastener holes land inside that footprint, so you need a solid 2-1/2 by 1-3/4 inch patch of floor clear of grout lines, carpet edges, and tile seams where you set it.

Commercial. Rockwood specs it for institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention, sports facilities, hotels and restaurants, and it's cast brass rather than stamped or die cast. Decorative solid brass bumpers like the Deltana UFB or UFBD Series suit finer residential work; the 481H is the one that survives a school corridor.

The Ives FS13 heavy duty brass floor dome stop with replaceable rubber bumper is the closest cross to the 481H: same brass construction, same heavy duty class, same serviceable rubber tip. Ives FS17 is the same family with a rubber bumper as well. If the concern is people kicking the stop loose or prying it, the Ives FS18S/FS18L security floor stop is the heavy duty option built for that.

Floor stop versus goose neck comes down to where the door needs to be caught. The 481H sits low on the floor and takes the hit on the door face near the bottom, which suits heavy doors and busy corridors and keeps nothing at shin height. A goose neck, like the Delaney gooseneck floor stop, the Emtek 2253 goose style, or the Orca 22HD Series, reaches up off the floor to catch the door higher and stop it further out from the wall, useful when a lever or a panic device would otherwise strike the wall before the door face reaches a low stop. The tradeoff is a taller thing standing in the traffic path.

One per leaf, and handing doesn't apply. A floor stop has no left or right hand, you set it on the swing side at the point where you want the door to stop, and the same part works on every opening in the building. For a pair of doors you need two. That's what makes it easy to standardize a fleet of openings on one part number.

A goose neck stop is the usual answer when the door needs to be caught farther off the floor than a dome can reach. The Ives FS18S/FS18L is a heavy-duty security floor stop, built for openings where a standard stop gets attacked or removed. The Rockwood 481H is a commercial-grade solid cast brass stop supplied with three #12-24 x 1 inch flat head machine screws and three anchors, and it is a good fit for heavy doors and high traffic, but it is not described as a security stop. On detention, behavioral health, or hard-use tenant openings, the FS18S/FS18L is the one written into the spec.

Satin chrome, 626. That's the standard commercial finish and it matches 626 lever trim, closers, and push plates across an opening, which is what you want if you're standardizing a building on one look.

The Deltana UFBD3505 is a 3-1/2 inch round universal floor bumper in solid brass with a decorative profile, and the UFBP4505 is a 1-5/8 inch round bumper with a pattern cap. The Delaney 40260X is a dome door stop and the Emtek 2257 is a 1-1/2 inch cylindrical floor bumper from the Door Accessories collection. The Rockwood 481H is solid cast brass in standard architectural finishes with a gray or optional black rubber bumper, which reads as a commercial dome. Match the choice to whether the room is being finished as hospitality millwork or as back-of-house.
