1) Is the Klein 60148 safety helmet rated for electrical work?
Yes. The 60148 is a Class E, Type 1 non-vented helmet tested up to 20kV, which is the class electricians need for exposure to high-voltage conductors. Because it's Class E it has no vent holes in the shell. It meets ANSI Z89.1-2014 and CSA Z94.1-15.
2) Does the Klein 60148 meet Type II side-impact requirements?
No, and that matters if your site spec calls for Type II. The 60148 is a Type 1 helmet, tested for limited impact protection from the top, front/back and sides under EN397 and EN12492 clauses, but Klein states plainly it is not an ANSI/CSA Type II helmet. If your safety program requires Type II lateral impact protection, this won't satisfy it.
3) Does the Klein 60148 come with the headlamp, or is that bought separately?
The headlamp is included. The 60148 ships with the rechargeable Klein 56062 headlamp/work light and its charging cable, so you don't need to buy a light separately to put it in service.
4) Can I mount earmuffs or a face shield on the Klein 60148?
Yes. There are universal accessory slots on both sides for hearing protection, a face shield and similar add-ons, plus dedicated mounts front and back for Klein headlamps. Klein lists the 60156 and VISORGRAY as accessories for it. The front and back mounts hold the headlamp without straps or zip ties.
5) What head sizes does the Klein 60148 helmet adjust to?
It fits hat sizes 6-1/2 through 8 using a 6-point suspension with a ratchet knob and pivot adjustment. The knob is large enough to work one-handed with gloves on, and the neck pad pivots so it clears a bandana knot or ponytail. A removable 4-point padded chin strap comes with it.
6) How long does the headlamp on the Klein 60148 run per charge?
The included lithium-ion headlamp runs about 14 hours in flood/low mode at 100 lumens, 9 hours in spot/high at 215 lumens, and 4 hours in boost at 300 lumens. Flood/low covers a full shift; boost is for short bursts when you need to reach down a run or into a vault.
7) Is the Klein 60148 suitable for working at height or in a confined space?
That's what the form factor is built around. It's a compact 1.4 lb helmet with a low-profile bill for sightlines overhead, a 6-point suspension and a detachable 4-point chin strap to keep it seated when you tilt your head. Overall it measures 10.7 x 8.8 x 6.2 inches. Note it is still a Type 1 helmet, not Type II.
8) Can I replace the sweatband and suspension on these Klein helmets instead of buying new hats?
Yes, and for a fleet that's the point. Klein sells the sweatband (KHHSWTBND), top pad (KHHTOPPAD), chin strap (CLMBRSTRP) and suspension system (CLMBRSPN) separately. The sweatband and top pad are padded, sweat-wicking, odor resistant and machine washable, so day-to-day you launder them rather than replace them.
9) Will other Klein headlamps fit the 60148 helmet mounts, or only the one it ships with?
The front and back mounts take Klein rechargeable headlamps 56049, 56048 and 56062. The 56062 is the one packed with the helmet; the others are sold separately if you want a different output or a spare on the charger.
