Sargent 1431W EAB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Sargent 1431W EAB corner bracket used for?
It's a mounting bracket for Sargent 1431 Series door closers. The corner bracket gives the closer body or arm a fixed mounting point at the corner of the opening so the closer sits in the correct position for proper sweep and latch speed control. It is an installation accessory, not a closer itself, so you order it in addition to the closer.
2) Will the 1431W EAB bracket work with a Sargent 351 or other non-1431 closer?
No. The 1431W corner bracket is made for the Sargent 1431 Series only. Sargent brackets are cut to each closer family's hole pattern and arm geometry, so pulling one onto a different series leaves the shoe and pinion out of line. Confirm the closer stamped on your unit reads 1431 before ordering this bracket.
3) Does the 1431W EAB include the door closer, or just the bracket?
Just the bracket. This is a mounting plate sold as a replacement or add-on part, so the closer body, arm, and fasteners for the closer itself are separate. If you're replacing a damaged bracket on an existing 1431, this is the part you need on its own; if you're hanging a new closer, order the 1431 closer as well.
4) Is this bracket rated for commercial traffic, or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The 1431W EAB is classified as commercial door hardware and is used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial and warehouse buildings, multi-tenant residential, and government properties. For a property manager standardizing closers across a portfolio, it's the same bracket across all of those door types as long as the closer is a 1431.
