1) What lengths does the Sargent 5140 mortise cylinder core come in?
The 5140 mortise cylinder core is offered in four lengths: 1-1/4, 1-3/8, 1-1/2 and 1-3/4 inches. Length is driven by door thickness and how far the lock case sits back from the face of the door, so measure the cylinder you are pulling out before you order. On a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door a 1-1/4 inch cylinder is the common starting point, with the longer sizes used on thicker doors or where trim adds depth.
2) Does the Sargent 5140 cylinder come with a cam, or do I need to order one separately?
The cam is factory-attached to the 5140 core, so nothing extra is needed to make it operate the lock. The published core length is the as-installed configuration with the cam on it.
3) Can I get the 5140 keyed alike with the other cylinders in my building?
Yes. Keying is a required selection on the 5140: standard keying, KD (keyed different), or KA (keyed alike). Choose KA when a group of openings should share one key, KD when every door gets its own. For a property manager standardizing a floor or a wing, KA is the option to specify at order time.

It is a conventional key system cylinder, not an interchangeable core. That means it is pinned to a standard Sargent conventional keyway and is removed by backing the cylinder out of the lock case rather than pulling a core with a control key.

Fourteen finishes are available: 03 bright brass, 04 satin brass, 09 bright bronze, 10 satin bronze, 10B oil rubbed dark oxidized satin bronze, 10BE, 10BL, 14 bright nickel, 15 satin nickel, 20D dark statuary bronze, 32 bright stainless, 32D satin stainless, plus BSP black suede and WSP white suede powder coat. Finish has to be specified when you order, since only the cylinder face shows against the escutcheon or rose.
6) I just need to rekey a door, not replace the whole mortise lock. Is the 5140 what I order?
Yes. The 5140 is a core-only replacement part, so you keep the existing 140 Series mortise lock case and trim and swap only the cylinder. Specify length, finish and keying and the lock body stays in the door.
