Sargent 655 BLACK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Sargent exit devices does the 655 bottom strike work with?
The Sargent 655 alternate bottom strike is made for Sargent 2727, 3727, 8700 and 9700 Series exit devices. Those are the series it is built to fit, so if your device is from another Sargent family or another brand, this is not the strike for it.
2) What does an alternate bottom strike do on a vertical rod exit device?
It is the floor-side strike the bottom latch or rod drops into. The 655 is offered as an alternate configuration to suit different frame or threshold conditions, so when the standard strike does not suit the opening or the original one is worn or damaged, the 655 restores proper latch engagement at the bottom of the door.
3) Is the Sargent 655 strike a genuine Sargent part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a manufacturer-sourced Sargent replacement part, catalogued as model 655, so it matches original Sargent specifications for the 2727, 3727, 8700 and 9700 Series devices.
4) Can I order just the bottom strike instead of replacing the whole Sargent exit device?
Yes. The 655 is sold as a standalone replacement part, so a worn or mismatched bottom strike on a 2727, 3727, 8700 or 9700 Series device can be swapped without pulling the device off the door. That keeps a high-traffic opening back in service quickly.
5) Is the Sargent 655 strike rated for commercial traffic, or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The 655 is a commercial-grade exit device replacement part, used in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government buildings where the exit hardware sees constant use.
6) How is the Sargent 655 supplied for finish?
The 655 bottom strike comes in a single standard finish option. There is no finish choice to specify when ordering, unlike the trim and device finishes you would select on the exit device itself.
