Sargent 68-0037 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exit devices does the Sargent 68-0037 bottom case fit?
The 68-0037 bottom case is a genuine Sargent replacement component made for Sargent 8400 Series exit devices. It is a factory-matched part for that series only, so it should not be used to repair another Sargent series or another brand's device.
2) Can I repair a Sargent 8400 exit device instead of replacing the whole unit?
That is exactly what the 68-0037 is for. It is a direct OEM replacement bottom case that restores original mechanical function to a compatible 8400 Series assembly without swapping out the complete exit device, which keeps the existing rail, trim and door prep in place.
3) Is the 68-0037 an aftermarket copy or an actual Sargent part?
Genuine Sargent. The 68-0037 is an authentic OEM component, which matters on egress hardware where a non-factory part can change how the device latches and releases. Order it by Sargent part number 68-0037 to keep the 8400 Series assembly original.
4) Is the Sargent 68-0037 a commercial-duty part or is it suitable for residential doors?
It is a commercial part. The 68-0037 is built to Sargent's commercial-grade standards for high-traffic egress hardware, which is where 8400 Series devices are normally installed: offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings and government facilities.
5) Do I need a locksmith to install the 68-0037 bottom case, or can building maintenance do it?
Sargent intends this part for qualified door hardware technicians and facilities maintenance staff. If your in-house maintenance crew already services exit devices, they can handle it; otherwise it is straightforward work for a locksmith, since the device stays on the door and only the bottom case is exchanged.
