1) Does the Sargent 8X entrance lock need to be ordered handed?
No. It is non-handed, and the latch is reversible and self-adjusting to the door bevel, so one lock works on a left or right hand opening without field conversion. That is useful when you are stocking spares for a building rather than a single door.
2) Can I key the Sargent 8X knob lock into the master key system already running in my building?
That is what the keying and keyway selections are for. Yes. The 8X Line knob lock is UL-cUL fire rated up to 3 hours, so it can be used in a fire rated door assembly up to that rating. Entrance/office function keeps the latch operable from the inside at all times.
5) What does entrance/office function actually do on a Sargent 8XG05?
Entrance/office means the outside knob is locked or unlocked by key from outside, or by a pushbutton in the inside knob. The inside knob always retracts the latch for free egress. It suits tenant office doors, suite entries and back-of-house doors where staff want to leave it open during business hours and secure it at close. It is a single cylinder lock, so there is no key cylinder on the inside.
6) My door is thicker than 1-3/4 inches. What Grade 1 cylindrical knob should I look at instead?
The 8XG05 stops at 1-3/4 inches, so it is the wrong part for a thicker slab. The Falcon X101 Grade 1 cylindrical knobset covers 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inches, and the Corbin Russwin CK4310 Grade 1 knob covers 1-3/8 to 2 inches. Note both of those are passage function, not keyed entrance, so confirm the function you need matches.
7) What is the closest Grade 1 keyed entrance knob lock to the Sargent 8XG05 from another manufacturer?
