1) Does the Sargent 810 dummy pull actually latch, or is it just a pull?
It's a pull only. The Sargent 810 is dummy function trim, meaning it has no latch retraction and no cylinder, it's a fixed pull mounted on the outside face of the door. All the latching and unlatching is done by the PE80 Series exit device on the push side. If you need the outside trim to retract the latch with a key or a lever, the 810 dummy pull is the wrong part.
2) Will the Sargent 810 pull trim fit any exit device, or only Sargent?
The 810 pull is built as PE80 Series trim and mounts to Sargent PE80 Series exit devices. Mounting patterns for exit device trim are series-specific, so don't plan on hanging it off a Von Duprin, Falcon, or Corbin Russwin device. 3) I'm ordering Sargent 810 trim. What do I have to specify?
Two things: the trim style and the finish. Trim style comes as FLL, FLW, MAL, PTB, or STS, and those change the shape of the pull, so match it to what's already on the other openings if you're keeping a building consistent. 4) Is a dummy pull the right choice for an exit-only door, or do I need keyed trim?

32D satin stainless steel is the workhorse match for commercial openings, and 32 bright stainless is the polished counterpart. If the building runs dark hardware, BSP black suede powder coat or 20D dark statuary bronze are the closest. For brass and bronze schemes there's 03, 04, 09, 10, 10B, and 10BL. Sargent's finish numbering follows the standard hardware finish codes, so 32D on this pull matches 32D on the rest of the opening.
9) Is the Sargent 810 pull heavy-duty enough for a school or hospital corridor?
It's rated Grade 1 and specified as commercial hardware, which is the highest of the three ANSI/BHMA duty grades and what institutional specs normally call for. 10) Can I put a dummy pull on a fire rated door?
The trim itself doesn't create or break a fire rating, the device and door assembly do. On a glass front opening, confirm the device family first and take the pull that belongs to it.
12) Can I match a Sargent 810 pull to a Von Duprin or Detex device on a wood door?
Trim and device should come from the same family - the Sargent 810 is built to integrate with Sargent PE80 Series exit devices, and its mounting follows that device. Beyond the family question, some wide stile mortise devices are not built for wood doors at all: the Von Duprin 8875, the Von Duprin 9875 and the Detex 30 Series are each listed as not wood door compatible, while the Adams Rite 3300 and 8300 Series are made for wood and hollow metal doors. Settle the door material and device family before selecting the pull.
13) Do exit-only mortise devices need a dummy pull like the Sargent 810?
Not for function.
