Satco Lighting 80-983 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Satco 80-983 recessed can for new construction or for retrofitting an existing ceiling?
The Satco 80-983 is a remodel can, meaning it is made to go into a ceiling that is already finished. You cut the opening from below and the housing clips to the drywall, so you don't need access above the ceiling and you don't need to fasten to joists the way a new-construction housing does. If the ceiling is still open and framing is exposed, a new-construction housing with bar hangers is the better choice.
2) Does the Satco 80-983 come with a trim or a lamp?
The 80-983 is the housing only, a 5 inch remodel can. Trim, and the lamp or LED module that goes in it, are ordered separately, so budget a 5 inch trim per opening when you spec the job.
3) What is the correct part number to order the Satco 5 inch remodel can?
Order it as Satco 80-983, also printed by the manufacturer as 80/983. Both refer to the same 5 inch recessed remodel housing, which is useful to know if your distributor's system shows the slash format.
