Satco Lighting S11220 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What incandescent double ended halogen does this 6W LED replace?
It stands in for a 40W incandescent, putting out 600 lumens on 6 watts at 120 volts. If the existing R7S lamp in the fixture is a 100W or 150W halogen, this will be a noticeable drop in output.
2) Can this R7S LED go in a sealed or enclosed fixture?
Yes, it is an enclosed rated lamp, so a gasketed security flood head or a sealed cove housing is fine. It carries a damp location rating, which covers covered porches, soffits and bathrooms, but not direct wet exposure.
3) Does a 200 degree beam angle cover the same spread as the halogen tube it replaces?
Close, but not full circle. A double ended halogen tube throws light all the way around; this LED puts 600 lumens across a 200 degree spread, so there is a dark side behind the board. In a flood head or wall wash that faces one direction it makes no difference. In an open torchiere or a fixture lit from both sides, rotate the lamp so the emitting face points where you want the light.
4) Can this lamp be mounted vertically or does it have to lie horizontal?
Burning position is universal, so vertical R7S sockets in a torchiere or a wall sconce work the same as the usual horizontal mount in a flood head.
5) What color light does the S11220 give, and will it match the other lamps in the building?
3000K warm white with a CRI of 80, and the color temperature is fixed, not selectable. If the rest of the property is standardized on 2700K it will read slightly cooler; against 4000K fixtures it will read noticeably warmer. The lens is clear polycarbonate with a white housing.
6) How long does this R7S LED last compared with the halogen tubes I keep replacing?
Rated for 15,000 average hours. Double ended halogen tubes typically run a couple of thousand hours, which is why R7S flood heads and sconces are a frequent relamp call. At 6 watts and 0.050A the load on the circuit also drops sharply from the halogen it replaces.
7) Is the Satco S11220 acceptable for California Title 24 work?
Yes, it is Title 24 compliant, and it is FCC compliant. It is not DLC listed, so if a utility or commercial rebate program requires a DLC listing, this lamp will not qualify for it.
8) Is the S11220 glass like a halogen tube, or will it survive handling on a ladder?
Both the lens and the base are polycarbonate rather than quartz glass, so it tolerates handling far better than the halogen tube it replaces, and skin oil on the body is not the failure risk it is with quartz.
9) Can I use this on a three-way switch setup?
No. The S11220 is not a three-way lamp, so in a three-way socket it will simply be on or off rather than stepping through levels. For step control use the dimming function on an LED rated dimmer instead.
