Satco Lighting S29878 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use this G25 LED globe bulb in an enclosed fixture?
Yes, it is an enclosed rated lamp, so a closed glass globe or a sealed vanity fixture will not void the rating the way it does with many non-rated LEDs. It also carries a damp location rating, which covers a bathroom vanity or a covered porch fixture, but not a wet location with direct water exposure.
2) Will this Satco LED globe dim on my existing wall dimmer?
The S29878 is a dimmable lamp. Note it is not a three-way bulb, so it will not step through low/medium/high on a three-way socket and lamp switch. If your dimmer is an older forced-phase incandescent type, LED filament lamps at this low a draw (0.046A) can flicker or drop out at the bottom of the range, and an LED-rated dimmer solves that.
3) Does this Satco G25 LED meet California Title 24?
Yes, the S29878 is Title 24 compliant, which is the box to tick for California residential and multi-family lighting work. It is also FCC compliant. It is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify for utility rebate programs that require DLC, which is generally a commercial fixture program rather than a screw-in lamp program anyway.
4) Is 2700K going to look the same as the incandescent bulbs already in my building?
2700K is warm white, the color temperature that matches standard incandescent and soft white lamps, so it will blend with existing incandescent globes in a bath bar or lobby fixture. Color is fixed, not CCT selectable, so every bulb out of the box is the same 2700K. That matters if you are standardizing a hotel or multi-family property and want no color variation between rooms.
5) The bulb is exposed in my fixture, so will it look like a bare LED?
It is a clear, lensed LED filament lamp, so the visible element inside the glass reads like a filament rather than a frosted diode plate. That is what you want in an open vanity bar, a bathroom mirror light, or a pendant where the bulb itself is part of the look. If you would rather hide the source and diffuse glare, a frosted or white G25 is the better pick.
6) Does this bulb throw light in all directions, or only downward?
Full 360 degree beam spread, and it can be installed in any burning position, base up, base down, or horizontal. That makes it workable in a mirror-flanking vanity light where the bulbs point sideways, or in a ceiling globe firing upward, without a light output penalty on the orientation.
7) Is the color rendering good enough for a bathroom or hospitality guest room?
CRI is 90, high enough for vanity and grooming areas and for hospitality rooms where skin tones and finishes need to read accurately. Most commodity LED globes sit at 80, so the difference is visible at a mirror.
8) How long will these last before maintenance has to change them again?
Rated average life is 15,000 hours. On a bathroom or corridor fixture running roughly 6 hours a day that is close to seven years of service, which is the argument for spec'ing it across a property rather than relamping incandescent globes every season.
