Schaub 57-15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What screw comes with the Schaub City Lights 57 cabinet knob, and will it work on a 3/4 inch door front?
The City Lights 57 knob uses an 8/32 x 1 inch machine screw, which is the standard cabinet knob thread. A 1 inch screw covers a typical 3/4 inch door or drawer front with thread left to engage the knob. On thicker fronts, or over a thick applied panel, you will need a longer 8-32 screw sourced separately.
2) Is the Schaub 57 a direct swap for an existing cabinet knob without drilling new holes?
In most cases yes. Cabinet knobs mount through a single bore and the 57 uses the standard 8-32 thread, so it drops onto the same hole as the knob you are removing. The 7/8 inch base will cover a small amount of wear around the existing bore, but not a larger footprint left by an oversized rosette.
3) What is the closest glass cabinet knob alternative to the Schaub 57 City Lights knob?
The Emtek Astoria Glass Cabinet Knob from the Schaub collection is the nearest glass-bodied alternative. Both are glass cabinet knobs; the Schaub 57 City Lights is a square glass knob on a 1-1/4 inch diameter with a 7/8 inch base and a solid brass base material, while the Astoria is Emtek's glass knob series and is catalogued as a cabinet knob/pull. If the square, contemporary City Lights profile is not the look you want, the Astoria is the glass option to price against it.
4) If I want an all-metal knob instead of glass for a high-traffic kitchen, what should I use in place of the Schaub 57?
The Deltana KRB175 Round Knob with Groove is a heavy-duty solid brass round knob at 1-3/4 inch diameter, so it gives you a metal body and a larger grip than the 1-1/4 inch diameter Schaub 57 City Lights square glass knob. The Delaney Solid Brass Cabinet Knob is another all-brass option in the same cabinet knob family. Both trade the glass square face of the City Lights knob for a solid metal profile.
5) How far does the Schaub 57 glass knob stand off the cabinet face?
Projection is 1-1/8 inches from the face of the door or drawer front. That gives enough finger clearance for a gloved hand and keeps the knob clear of an adjacent inset door when doors are hung side by side. The base that sits against the wood measures 7/8 inch.
6) Is the Schaub 57 City Lights knob big enough for full-height pantry or wardrobe doors?
At 1-1/4 inches across the knob, the 57 is a mid-size cabinet knob. It reads well on drawer fronts and standard doors. On a tall pantry or wardrobe slab most designers move to a pull rather than a knob, and if you want a larger knob the Deltana KRB175 is 1-3/4 inches in diameter.
7) Which finishes does the Schaub 57 City Lights knob come in for matching existing cabinet hardware?
Six finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Polished Rose Gold, and Satin Brass. For a property manager matching an existing run, Satin Nickel and Polished Chrome cover most builder-grade kitchens, while Polished Rose Gold and Satin Brass are the warmer specification choices.
8) Will a square glass knob look right in a traditional kitchen, or should I pick something else?
The City Lights 57 is a contemporary square glass design, so it suits flat-panel and transitional cabinetry. For a traditional or period kitchen, the Emtek Astoria Glass Cabinet Knob from the Schaub Collection is the glass option with a more classic profile, and the Orca CK-18032 Mission Round knob suits Craftsman and Shaker work.
9) We need a simpler cabinet knob for a rental turn - what is a plainer alternative to the Schaub 57 City Lights?
The Orca Hardware CK-18032 Mission Round Cabinet Knob and the Orca CK-19032 Whistler Cabinet Knob are both straightforward round cabinet knobs, without the glass body or contemporary square face of the Schaub 57 City Lights knob. For a fleet of units where you want one repeatable knob across every cabinet, either Orca series covers the same cabinet knob function.
10) What is the Schaub 57 knob actually made of, and is the glass part structural?
The base material is solid brass, and the square glass element sits in that brass base. Solid brass is what carries the screw and the load, so the knob holds up to daily kitchen or bath use. Finishes are applied to the brass, and the glass stays clear against all of them.
11) Can I mix the Schaub 57 knob with pulls from another line on the same kitchen?
Yes, mixing knobs on doors with pulls on drawers is common. Keep the finish name consistent across brands with care, since finishes are not standardized between manufacturers. The Emtek SELECT 8665 Schaub Collection line is listed as a knob/pull family, which makes it a closer finish match than an unrelated brand.
12) What are the decorative-style alternatives if the contemporary Schaub 57 City Lights knob does not fit the cabinetry design?
The Emtek Art Deco Cabinet Knob and the Emtek Allerton Cabinet Knob, both in the Schaub collection, are period-styled cabinet knob/pull series that read differently from the contemporary square glass face of the Schaub 57 City Lights knob. Art Deco carries a geometric decorative motif and Allerton is its own distinct series, so either lets you keep the same cabinet knob function while changing the design language of the run.
