Schaub SCH-CS557 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What hole spacing do I need to drill for the Schaub CS557 Heathrow appliance pull?
Drill on 12 inch centers. The CS557 Heathrow appliance pull is a 12 inch center-to-center pull with a 14-1/2 inch overall length, so you get about 1-1/4 inches of post and end detail outboard of each hole. Lay out the 12 inch spacing first, then confirm the 14-1/2 inch overall clears the panel edges or any adjacent appliance trim.
2) What screws come with the Heathrow CS557 pull and will they work on a thick appliance panel door?
The CS557 uses #8-32 x 1 inch machine screws. That length suits a standard 3/4 inch panel front with a little thread engagement to spare. If you are mounting to a thicker integrated appliance panel or a panel with an applied face, you will need longer #8-32 screws, which are a standard thread and easy to source.
3) How far does the Schaub CS557 stand off the door, and will there be room to grab it?
Projection is 2 inches, measured from the face of the door to the back of the grip bar. That is a deep, full-hand projection, which is what you want on a refrigerator or freezer panel where you are pulling against a gasket seal. Check the swing clearance to any adjacent wall or cabinet run before committing, since 2 inches is more than a typical drawer pull.
4) Will the Schaub CS557 fit my existing 12 inch appliance pull holes?
If the existing pull is drilled on 12 inch centers, the CS557 drops onto the same two holes. Two things to check before you order: the current posts may sit on a base larger than 1 inch, so a smaller base will not cover an oversized or damaged hole, and the 2 inch projection may be deeper than what you are removing, which changes clearance to anything beside the appliance.
5) What is a good alternative to the Schaub CS557 appliance pull if the cabinet run only needs standard door and drawer pulls?
The Schaub CS557 Heathrow is an appliance pull with a 12 inch center to center and a 14-1/2 inch overall length, sized for refrigerator and freezer panels. For ordinary doors and drawers in the same run, the Trimco 553 Series drawer pulls come in a 3 inch center to center, and the Trimco 562 Series is offered in 3-1/2 inch, 4 inch and 96mm center to center. Those are drawer-scale pulls, so plan on the CS557 for the appliance fronts and the shorter Trimco spacings for the cabinetry.
6) What does concealed surface mounted mean on the Schaub CS557 pull?
Concealed surface mount means the CS557 fastens from the face of the door into the posts, with the screws hidden rather than showing through the back of the panel or as exposed heads on the front. You get a clean post base with no visible hardware. The mounting hardware is #8-32 x 1 inch, and the post base measures 1 inch.
7) What finishes does the Schaub Heathrow CS557 appliance pull come in?
Five finishes: Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Matte Black, Polished Nickel, and Signature Satin Brass. If you are outfitting a full kitchen and need the appliance pulls to match the cabinet pulls and knobs, specify from the Heathrow collection in the same finish code so the plating batch and profile line up.
8) Is the Schaub CS557 solid brass or plated steel?
Solid brass is the base material, with the finish applied over it. For a multi-family or hospitality spec that matters: brass will not flash rust at the screw posts the way plated steel can in a humid kitchen, and it holds up to repeated hard pulls on an appliance door.
9) Can I use the CS557 as a regular cabinet or drawer pull instead of on an appliance?
You can, but the proportions are built for an appliance door. At 12 inches center to center, 14-1/2 inches overall, and 2 inches of projection, it will overwhelm a standard drawer front. For drawers and door fronts, look at a smaller pull such as the Trimco 553 Series at 3 inch center to center, the Trimco 562 Series in 3-1/2 inch, 4 inch and 96mm, or the Deltana SBP35 square bar pull at 3-1/2 inches.
10) Can I use an Emtek cabinet pull to match the Schaub CS557 Heathrow?
Emtek carries a Schaub Collection of cabinet pulls, which is the closest family line to the CS557. The Emtek 8405 Select cabinet pulls, and the Alexander, Art Deco and Bar cabinet pulls, are all part of that Schaub Collection and are catalogued as cabinet knob/pull items. The CS557 itself is the appliance pull version, solid brass with a 2 inch projection, so the Emtek Schaub Collection pieces are the companion door and drawer hardware rather than a drop-in for the appliance panel.
11) I need a lower-projection pull than the Schaub CS557 for a tight galley aisle. What else is solid brass?
The CS557 Heathrow stands off 2 inches from the face. If clearance is the constraint, the Omnia 1970 modern cabinet pull is forged solid brass with a 1-1/4 inch projection, and the Omnia 1969 and Omnia 1971 are forged solid brass at 1-3/16 inch projection. All three are cabinet pulls rather than appliance pulls, so confirm the center to center you need before swapping.
12) I need appliance pulls and matching cabinet pulls in the same look. What pairs with the Schaub Heathrow?
Heathrow is a contemporary bar profile, so the cabinet-size companions that read the same are straight bar designs. Emtek carries the Schaub Collection through its SELECT line, including the Emtek Bar Cabinet Pull and the Emtek 8405 Select cabinet pulls, which are the closest in styling family. For a heavier squared look instead, the Deltana SBP35 modern square bar pull in solid brass is the alternative.
13) Is there a Proposition 65 warning on the Schaub CS557 for California?
Yes. Schaub publishes a Proposition 65 warning for this product through its product stewardship page. California buyers and anyone specifying into a California project should review it as part of submittal documentation.
14) How does the Deltana SBP35 compare to the Schaub CS557 Heathrow pull?
The Deltana SBP35 is a modern square bar pull at 3-1/2 inches, heavy-duty solid brass, from the SBP Series. The Schaub CS557 is also solid brass but is a contemporary Heathrow appliance pull at 12 inch center to center with a 2 inch projection and a 1 inch base dimension, fastened with #8-32 x 1 inch screws. The SBP35 suits drawer and door fronts; the CS557 is the appliance-scale piece.
15) Does the Omnia 1968/102 work for an appliance panel like the Schaub CS557 does?
No. The Omnia 1968/102 is a modern cabinet pull in forged solid brass with 4 inch center to center spacing, which is a door and drawer size. An appliance panel typically needs the longer span the Schaub CS557 Heathrow gives you, 12 inch center to center and 14-1/2 inches overall in solid brass.
