Schlage 03-231 ND Series Cylinder Lever

Just the outside keyed lever trim. The 03-231 is a replacement part, function is lever only, so there is no chassis, latch or strike in the box. If your lock body or latch is the failed component, you need a complete ND Series lockset rather than this trim.

No cylinder ships with it. The 03-231 is supplied less cylinder, so you either move the cylinder out of the lever you are replacing or order a Schlage key-in-lever cylinder separately in the keyway your building is keyed to. Budget for that line item before the order goes out.

Handing isn't a factor. The 03-231 is non-handed, so the same part works on a left hand or right hand door and you do not need to specify swing when ordering. That also means one part number covers both directions if you are stocking spares for a building.

Both. The 03-231 lever is ADA accessibility compliant and meets the California code calling for a return to the door of 1/2 inch or less, which is what a lever needs to keep clothing and equipment from catching on it. That matters on schools, healthcare and public buildings where the lever style itself is inspected.

No - they are two different parts of the door. The Schlage 03-231 is lock trim, a keyed lever handle that mounts on ALX, CO, and ND Series locksets and carries the Lever Only function with no cylinder supplied. The Cal-Royal CALDOR238 CAL101 is a dormitory dead latch, a latching mechanism with a Dormitory function. If the lever on an existing ND lockset is worn or damaged, the 03-231 is the replacement handle; a dormitory dead latch does not provide a lever handle and does not substitute for one.

Nine lever designs: Athens, Boardwalk, Broadway, Latitude, Longitude, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular. Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 626AM satin chrome antimicrobial and 643E aged bronze. Match the design and finish code stamped on the lock you're replacing and the new trim blends into the run of doors.

Pressure cast zinc, plated to match the finish specification you order. So a 626 lever plates out to the same satin chrome as the rest of a 626 ND Series opening. Cast zinc is the standard commercial lever body and it holds up to corridor and stairwell traffic in a property with steady use.

626AM satin chrome antimicrobial is one of the finish options on the 03-231 lever. That's the specification hospitals, clinics and senior living facilities usually standardize on for touch surfaces, and it can be ordered in any of the nine lever designs.

It's the keyed side only. The 03-231 is set up to take a cylinder, so it goes on the outside of the opening. For the inside lever you want the matching non-keyed ND trim in the same design and finish, ordered separately.

5-1/8 inches overall. That length is worth checking against a narrow frame or a door that swings hard into an adjacent wall or return, since the lever tip is what makes contact first. It is a standard commercial lever length, so it drops into the same clearance the original ND trim occupied.

Commercial. The 03-231 is trim for the ND Series, Schlage's heavy duty commercial cylindrical line, and it's specified for offices, schools, multi-family common areas and institutional corridors rather than residential doors. It's a mechanical part with no electronics in it.
