Schlage 09-611 Occupancy Indicator (Old Style) for Rose Trim, "Do Not Disturb"

It is made for the L9000 series mortise locks with a deadbolt. The indicator is driven by the lock bolt itself, so the deadbolt is what changes the display: throw it and the red Do Not Disturb face shows, retract it and the face reads blank. That also sets the limit. On an L9000 function with no deadbolt there is nothing to drive the indicator, so check the function on the lock body before you order.

The standard unit is built for a 1-3/4 inch door, which is the usual commercial thickness on guest room, dorm and patient room openings. If the doors you are working on measure 1-3/4 inches, the standard 09-611 is the one to order.

Nothing electrical is involved. The indicator is driven by the lock bolt itself, so the display changes mechanically as the occupant throws or retracts the deadbolt. No power to the door, no low-voltage run, no batteries to service across a floor of rooms.

Occupied shows as the words Do Not Disturb in white on a red background, which appears when the bolt is thrown. Retract the bolt and the window goes blank on a white background. Two states only, red with wording or plain white, so it reads from down the corridor without anyone having to interpret a symbol.

Only the indicator. It is an accessory that goes onto an L9000 series mortise lock with a deadbolt, not a lockset, so the lock body, trim and cylinder are separate items. Specifying a new opening means ordering the L9000 in a deadbolt function and adding the indicator to it. Servicing an existing opening means this is the piece you buy on its own.

Order it in the same finish code stamped on the lock trim already on the door. The indicator comes in twelve: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel, 630 satin stainless steel and 643E aged bronze. For a building running one standard across every guest room door, matching the code is what keeps the corridor consistent when you replace indicators one at a time.
