Schlage A201-377 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Schlage A201-377 mounting plate fit my A Series knob lock?
It fits Schlage A Series locks on the inside of the door, with two exceptions: the A43 and the A79. Those two functions take a different inside plate, so if the lock you are servicing is stamped A43 or A79, the A201-377 is not the part. The function code is usually on the lock chassis or on the original order paperwork, and that is the thing to confirm before you buy, not the finish or the knob style.
2) Do I have to replace the whole Schlage A Series lockset if the inside mounting plate is damaged?
No. The A201-377 is sold as a Schlage service part on its own, so a damaged or stripped inside plate is a repair rather than a full lock replacement. The chassis, cylinder and keying stay in the door, which matters if the opening is on an existing key system and you do not want to re-key around one broken plate.
3) Is the Schlage A201-377 a genuine Schlage part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine. The A201-377 is a certified Schlage part, not a generic equivalent, which is the difference that matters when a specification calls for the lock to stay all-Schlage or when a facility is standardizing on A Series across its openings.
4) Does finish matter when ordering a Schlage A Series mounting plate, or is it universal?
Finish matters. A Series service parts are frequently finish specific rather than one plate covering every finish, so the plate is ordered to match the lock it is going into. If you are repairing openings across a building and want them to match, note the finish on the existing lock before ordering rather than assuming any A201-377 will blend in.
5) Is the Schlage A201-377 plate meant for commercial locks or residential ones?
Commercial. It is a service part for the A Series, Schlage's commercial cylindrical knob line, so it belongs on office, school, healthcare and multi-family corridor openings rather than on residential-grade knobs. If the knob in the door is a residential Schlage line, this plate is not the match.
