Schlage Commercial 12-296 Deadbolt, B600/700/800 Series, Adjustable 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" Backset, 1-1/8" x 2-1/4" Face

The 12-296 is the replacement bolt for Schlage's B600, B700 and B800 Series deadbolts. If the lock body on the door is one of those three series, this is the bolt that belongs in it. It is a certified Schlage part rather than an aftermarket copy, which is what keeps the lock a Schlage lock on a spec job.

That is exactly what the 12-296 is for. It is the bolt unit sold on its own for the B600, B700 and B800 Series, so a bolt that drags, sticks or no longer throws fully can be swapped while the cylinder, thumbturn and roses stay on the door. Keeping the cylinder also keeps the opening on its existing key, which matters when the building is keyed into a master system and you do not want to re-pin or re-issue keys over one worn bolt.

One part covers both. The 12-296 is the adjustable backset bolt for the B600, B700 and B800 Series, so the same unit sets to either of the two standard backsets, 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches measured from the door edge to the center of the bore. That is not how every brand handles it: Deltana splits its Grade 1 regular latches into separate part numbers by backset, the G1RLE238 for 2-3/8 and the G1RLE275 for 2-3/4. For a mixed building, the adjustable Schlage bolt is one line on the order and one part number on the van instead of two.

On a door already prepped for a B600, B700 or B800 deadbolt, yes. The bolt carries a 1-1/8 by 2-1/4 inch face, the standard square corner deadbolt faceplate size, so it goes back into the existing edge mortise with no routing. Where it will not drop straight in is a door edge cut for a radius corner plate, or one prepped for a drive-in bolt with no faceplate mortise at all. Check the corners of the plate you are pulling off before you order.

It does. Schlage builds these parts finish specific, so the bolt is ordered in the finish of the lock it is going into rather than picked as a generic spare. The 12-296 comes in 605 bright brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel and 626 satin chrome. Order by the finish number stamped on the existing hardware, not by eye. 612 and 613 in particular look close in a catalog photo and read completely differently on a door in daylight.

The bolt is stainless steel and is built as a commercial part for the B600, B700 and B800 program, which is the reason it holds up where a plated pot metal bolt does not. Stainless matters most on an exterior opening, where the bolt sees weather through the strike pocket as well as wear from a door that is out of alignment. For a facility standardizing spares, one stainless bolt in the right finish covers every B600, B700 and B800 deadbolt in the building.

Different part entirely. The 12-296 is the bolt that lives inside a Schlage B600, B700 or B800 deadbolt on the active door. For the sidelite panel, the Accentra YSSL10 security sidelite auxiliary latch is the purpose built unit: it is fire rated, sized for 1-3/4 inch doors, and it comes with an ADA compliant thumbturn, which is what an institutional or hospitality opening usually has to hit on the accessible route.

Those are two different pieces of hardware in the door. The Schlage 12-296 is a certified Schlage replacement part for B600, B700, and B800 series. The Deltana G1RLE238 and G1RLE275 are Grade 1 regular latches in the Entry function, the spring latch a knob or lever retracts, and Deltana sells them as separate part numbers for a 2-3/8 inch and a 2-3/4 inch backset. A worn deadbolt takes the deadbolt part; an entry latch belongs in the bore under the knob or lever.

They are not interchangeable. The Dexter DEXC1000-DL-630 is a deadlatch built for the Dexter C1000 series, and the Schlage 12-296 is a B Series deadlatch part matched to B600, B700, and B800 series. Each one is cut for its own lock family, so order the Dexter part for the C1000 door and the 12-296 for the Schlage door rather than trying to make one part serve both.

The sidelite gets its own hardware. The Accentra YSSL10 is a security sidelite auxiliary latch with an ADA compliant thumbturn, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors and carrying a fire rating, and that is the piece made for the narrow panel. The Schlage 12-296 stays with the B600, B700, or B800 series deadbolt in the active leaf, so a job with both openings takes both parts.

They split two ways. Function first: G1RLE238 and G1RLE275 are the Entry function, while G1RLP238 and G1RLP275 are Passage/Privacy. Backset second: the 238 numbers are 2-3/8 inch and the 275 numbers are 2-3/4 inch. All four are Grade 1, so measure from the door edge to the center of the bore, settle whether the room needs to key or just latch, and the part number falls out of those two answers.
