The B502-200 is a rim cylinder backplate. It mounts on the inside face of the door behind a rim cylinder, giving the mounting screws a flat bearing surface and holding the cylinder square against the door. It's a replacement part, not a cylinder, so you order it in addition to the rim cylinder itself when the original plate is missing, bent, or left behind from a previous device.
2) How many holes does the Schlage B502-200 rim cylinder backplate have?
Three. The B502-200 is the 3 hole version, so it suits a rim cylinder prep with a center hole for the cylinder body and two screw holes for the mounting screws. If the plate you pulled off the door has a different hole count or pattern, it is a different backplate and this one will not line up with the existing prep.
3) Does the Schlage B502-200 come with a cylinder or screws?
No. The B502-200 is supplied as the backplate only. The rim cylinder, its tailpiece, and the mounting screws that pass through the door into the cylinder are all ordered separately, so check what you already have on the door before you place the order.
4) I'm replacing an exit device rim cylinder on a commercial door. Do I need a backplate like the Schlage B502-200?
Usually yes on a rim application. A rim cylinder mounts from the outside face and is drawn tight by screws through a backplate on the inside; without the plate the screws have nothing to bear against and the cylinder can turn or loosen in the prep.
