For an L Series lock in a door other than 1-3/4 inches you need the L283 pack cut for that thickness, not this one. 1-3/4 inches is the standard commercial door thickness, so most L Series openings take this version.

L Series only. The post and screw geometry is specific to how Schlage L Series mortise trim mounts through the door and into the lock case. Cylindrical Schlage lines (the ND, AL, and B Series families) mount their trim a different way and take their own hardware. Check the lock case for the L Series designation before ordering.

Loose L Series trim is usually the mounting posts, not the lock. The posts thread through the door and pull the two trim plates against each other; once the threads gall or a screw is cross-threaded, the trim rocks and the lever feels sloppy even though the mortise case is fine. Replacing the L283-100 posts and screws is a far smaller job than pulling the case, and on a 1-3/4 inch door it is the first thing to try. If the case itself is dragging or the latch is not retracting, that is a different repair.
