The PM Series offers 26 functions, including three electrified, and four mortise deadbolt functions, all made to meet Schlage’s rigorous quality standards. With popular levers and finish options, Schlage's full key system security line up, and its durable design, you can meet needs for both security and style. Schlage PM080P NEPA 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage PM080 mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes, 1-3/4 inches (44 mm) is the standard door thickness for the PM Series mortise lock. The case will also go into a door as thin as 1-3/8 inches (35 mm), and the series fits doors up to 2-1/2 inches thick if you specify the door thickness and the lock position in the door when ordering. Backset is 2-3/4 inches only, so the mortise pocket has to be prepped for that.
2) Do I need to order the Schlage PM080 storeroom lock left hand or right hand?
No handing call needed. The PM080 is field reversible, so the same lock covers a left or right hand opening and you set it during install. That is the practical reason to stock one part number across a building instead of splitting inventory by hand.
3) What does storeroom function mean on the Schlage PM080, and is it right for a mechanical room or stockroom door?
Storeroom function means the outside lever is always locked and only the key retracts the latchbolt; the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. The door relocks every time it closes, so nobody can accidentally leave a storeroom, electrical closet, or riser room unsecured. If you want a door that can be left unlocked during business hours, storeroom is the wrong function.
4) Does the Schlage PM080 come with a cylinder, or do I supply my own core?
Both routes are offered. Order the P option for a conventional 6-pin cylinder keyed 5, or T for an FSIC construction core. If your locksmith is keying the building on an existing system, take one of the less-cylinder options: B less SFIC, J less FSIC, or L less conventional 6-pin. Those ship with the prep but no cylinder, so you drop in the core that matches your keyway.
5) Will a Schlage PM Series mortise lock drop into an existing Schlage L Series pocket?
Do not assume it will. Schlage states that PM and L Series case and cover holes differ, so the mounting hole pattern is not the same even though both are mortise locks. Check the PM template against the existing prep before you pull the old lock. The PM case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inch (113 x 154 x 25 mm).
6) What is a direct cross-brand equivalent to the Schlage PM080 storeroom mortise lock?
Two Grade 1 storeroom mortise locks cross closely to the PM080: the Accentra 8805FL Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock with Arcadia lever, and the Cal-Royal NM8080 heavy duty Grade 1 storeroom mortise lockset, which is offered with an interchangeable core option. The PM080 is itself a Grade 1 keyed storeroom mortise lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset and field reversible handing, so all three sit in the same function and grade class. Lever styles differ - the PM080 uses the Neptune lever, the 8805FL the Arcadia.
7) I need a classroom function mortise lock instead of storeroom - what should I order?
The PM080 is a storeroom function lock, so for classroom openings look at the Corbin Russwin ML2003 Grade 1 mortise classroom lockset or the Cal-Royal NM8070 heavy duty Grade 1 classroom mortise lockset. Both are listed for 1-3/4 inch doors, the same standard door thickness the PM080 is built around.
8) Can an electronic mortise lock replace the PM080 on the same door?
The PM080 is a mechanical, non-electronic keyed mortise lock. If the opening needs credential or code access, Grade 1 electronic mortise options include the Schlage CO-100 standalone electronic mortise lock with keypad reader, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors, the TownSteel FME-2000 with RFID technology, and the Alarm Lock DL3500CR Trilogy with 300 user codes. Note their functions differ from storeroom - the CO-100 referenced is privacy function and the FME-2000 and DL3500CR are classroom.
9) What if I need the mortise lock to release electrically from an access control panel?
The PM080 is a mechanical mortise lock with no electrified operation. For an electrified storeroom opening, the Command Access ML190 Series is a heavy-duty motorized mortise lock in storeroom function with field selectable EL/EU operation and 24VDC power, and the BEST 45HW Series is a wired electromechanical heavy duty mortise lock with 12V/24V operation.
10) Can I match the Schlage PM080 lever and finish to the other doors in my building?
The Neptune lever is offered in six finishes: 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 643E aged bronze. Trim comes as an A, C, or D rose or an N escutcheon. The PM Series shares lever and rose styles with Schlage's PT Series tubular locks, so mortise openings and tubular openings can carry the same look through a corridor.
11) Is the Schlage PM080 heavy duty enough for a high-traffic commercial opening?
It's a Grade 1 commercial mortise lock, the highest ANSI/BHMA durability tier used in institutional and commercial work. The case is cold rolled steel with corrosion resistant zinc dichromate plating, the latchbolt is stainless steel, and levers are zinc. That is the right build for retail back-of-house, multifamily common areas, and hospitality service doors.
12) What else could I use instead of the Schlage PM080 for a Grade 1 storeroom mortise opening?
Two direct alternatives we carry: the Accentra 8805FL, a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock with the Arcadia lever, and the Cal-Royal NM8080, a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lockset rated for 1-3/4 inch doors with an interchangeable core option. All three are keyed storeroom function. Pick on lever style, finish match to the rest of the building, and which key system your locksmith already maintains.
13) I need credential access on a storeroom door, not a key. Is the PM080 the wrong lock?
Yes, it's a purely mechanical, keyed mortise lock with no electronics. For card or mobile credentials on a mortise prep, look at the Schlage Electronics LEMD-GRW, a Grade 1 ENGAGE wireless mortise lock with a 125kHz proximity reader, or the TownSteel FME-2000, a Grade 1 mortise lockset with RFID for 1-3/4 inch doors. For a keypad-only standalone, the BEST 45HZ EZ Series mortise lock has key override.
14) Does the Schlage PM080 storeroom lock have a deadbolt?
No. The PM080 is a latchbolt-only storeroom function with a deadlocking action from the key side. The PM Series does offer four separate mortise deadbolt functions, and the deadbolt used in that family throws 1 inch (25 mm) in stainless steel. If you need a deadbolt on the same door, specify one of those functions rather than the PM080.
15) What is the non-keyed alternative if the opening does not need to lock?
The PM080 is a keyed storeroom lock. For an opening that only needs to latch, the Falcon MA101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise passage lock with field reversible operation and a fire rating, and TownSteel MRX-L-01 is a Grade 1 heavy duty passage mortise lockset. Hager also offers the 3810S passage mortise lock with rose and a 2-3/4 inch backset, matching the PM080 backset.
16) Is a Sargent 130KB thumbturn or a mortise deadbolt a substitute for the PM080?
No. The PM080 is a complete keyed storeroom mortise lockset with lever trim. The Sargent 130KB is a mortise thumbturn only, and the Sargent 4874 is a double cylinder mortise deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset - a deadbolt function with no latch or lever. The Kaba Ilco 185 Series is likewise a deadbolt function mortise lock. Those are components or bolt-only products, not lever locksets.
17) What mortise lock should I use for a dormitory or corridor opening rather than the PM080?
The Sargent 7925 is a Grade 1 heavy duty dormitory exit function mortise lock with rose trim and a single cylinder deadbolt. The PM080 storeroom function keeps the outside lever locked at all times with key retraction and no deadbolt, so the 7925 is the choice when the opening calls for dormitory operation with a deadbolt. The BEST 45HCAC heavy duty lock body offers public entrance function with field reversible operation as another corridor option.
18) Which mortise lock covers doors thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The PM080 is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors as standard. If the door is thicker, the Hager 3810E and 3850E 3800 Series locks are listed for a 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/2 inch door thickness range, and the Baldwin 6310 mortise lock body is listed for 1-3/8 inch and over. Functions differ - the Hager 3810E is passage, the 3850E office non-keyed, and the Baldwin 6310 entrance/storeroom.
19) For a behavioral health or ligature-resistant opening, what replaces the PM080?
The PM080 uses a standard Neptune lever. For anti-ligature openings, TownSteel offers the MRX-L-01 Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise lockset and the MRX-A-01 ligature resistant arch trim mortise lockset, both passage function on 1-3/4 inch doors. Marks USA MAR5PDN is a Grade 1 hospital passage mortise push/pull paddleset described as ligature resistant and ADA compliant in satin stainless steel.
20) I need privacy function for a restroom, not storeroom - what mortise lock fits?
The PM080 is a keyed storeroom lock and is not intended for restroom privacy. The Cal-Royal NM8440 is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lockset with deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors, the same door thickness the PM080 is specified for, and the Hager 3840S is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset matching the PM080 backset.
21) Are Emtek mortise entrance locksets an alternative to the Schlage PM080?
They serve a different purpose. The Emtek 3019 Brisbane, 3102 Memphis, 3104 Hamilton and 3106 Manhattan mortise entrance locksets are dummy function - trim only, with no latching or keyed operation. The PM080 is a keyed Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock with lever trim, so an Emtek dummy set would only suit an inactive leaf, not a secured opening.
