The Scotch 2200 pad is rated for connections up to 600 volts, which puts it in low voltage electrical work: service entrance splices, underground connections, bus work and terminations on 600V and below systems. It is not a high voltage pad. Dielectric strength is 300 V/mil across the 125 mil build.

Outdoor use is what the vinyl backing is there for. The PVC face resists UV, abrasion, moisture, alkalis, acids and copper corrosion, and the pad is listed as sunlight resistant, so it holds up on pole-mounted and exposed connections rather than breaking down in a season. The mastic itself seals out moisture. Service temperature is 0 to 100 degrees F (-18 to 38 degrees C), so it is a moderate-climate outdoor pad, not a high-heat one.

No. The 2200 vinyl mastic pad is not self-extinguishing. If a job spec calls for a flame-retardant or self-extinguishing insulating tape in the buildup, the 2200 does not satisfy that line by itself, and you would overwrap with a tape that does.

Each pad is 6-1/2 in x 4-1/2 in at 125 mil thick, pre-cut so you are not tearing lengths off a roll on a ladder. Cartons hold 10 pads and a case holds 50.

Pads suit a discrete connection you can wrap in one piece, a splice, a lug, a connector body, where a single 6-1/2 by 4-1/2 inch sheet covers it and self-fuses into a monolithic seal with no spiral overlap to leak. Roll mastic is the better choice for irregular or long runs, cable jacket repairs and build-up over bends where you need to keep feeding material. The pad already carries its own 7-mil PVC backing laminated to the mastic, so it has mechanical and UV protection built in and does not require a jacketing tape the way bare mastic does. Crews still commonly finish with a vinyl electrical tape overwrap where there is heavy abrasion or a spec calling for a flame-retardant outer layer, since the 2200 is not self-extinguishing.

Its rated service range tops out at 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) and bottoms at 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C). That covers most outdoor and general MRO work but rules it out for hot spots, engine rooms or conductors running near their thermal limit. Below 0 degrees F the mastic stiffens and will not conform, so cold-weather crews warm the pads before applying.

The 2200 pad is RoHS 2011/65/EU compliant without exemption, and 3M lists manufacturing origin as USA. Government contracts that require a country of origin representation need that certified by 3M Trade Compliance, which is requested from 3M directly rather than supplied with the carton.

Adhesion to steel is 21.9 N/cm and elongation at break is 200 percent, so the pad stretches to roughly three times its length and conforms down into the shoulders of a connector or around a lug without springing back off. Breaking strength is 20 lb/in, enough to pull it tight during application without tearing through.

Shelf life on the 2200 pads is 5 years, so a case stocked for an MRO crib or a service vehicle stays usable across several seasons. Keep them in the original carton and out of heat so the mastic does not flow at the edges.
