Yes. The tester has a tone generator with 4 tone styles built in, but tracing requires an analog tone tracing probe, which is not part of the kit. Buy the probe separately if you plan to chase unlabeled runs through walls or a crowded ceiling.

Eight out of the box, using the 8 included Test-n-Map remotes. The tester supports up to 19 remote locators total, so on a larger rack you can add LanMap or CoaxMap Location Remotes (sold separately) and ID up to 19 runs from one end.
6) Is it safe to put the Scout Pro 2 on a live line?
No. Do not use it on energized circuits. It does include a voltage warning that flags when voltage is present on the line so you know to disconnect before testing, but that is a protection feature, not permission to test live.
7) Does the Scout Pro 2 tell me if a shielded cable's shield is actually connected?
It does. Shield detection is one of its test functions, so on STP runs you can confirm the shield is continuous and bonded rather than finding out later when you chase noise on the link.
