Metallics JSS1458 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics JSS1458 a cup point set screw, and what does that mean for holding a shaft?
Cup point, yes. The cup point is a hollow-ground ring that bites into the mating surface, which is the usual choice for locking a collar, pulley, or coupling onto a shaft where some marring of the shaft is acceptable. If you need to clamp without permanently scarring the shaft, a flat or nylon-tip set screw is the better pick.
2) How does the JSS1458 set screw drive, and what tool do I need?
It is a socket (hex key) drive set screw with no head, so it seats flush or below the surface of the collar or hub. You drive it with an Allen wrench, not a screwdriver or a nut driver.
3) Are these Metallics set screws steel or stainless?
Steel. The JSS1458 is a plain steel cup point socket set screw, so for wet, washdown, or exterior work you want a stainless equivalent instead.
4) How many Metallics JSS1458 screws come in a jar?
They ship 100 to a jar, which is the standard bulk pack for an MRO cabinet or a service van bin rather than a per-piece buy.
