Metallics JSS142838SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and thread is the Metallics JSS142838SS socket set screw?
The Metallics JSS142838SS is a 1/4-28 x 3/8 inch socket set screw, so it's a fine-thread 1/4 inch screw with a 3/8 inch length. The 1/4-28 callout means it will only mate with a 1/4-28 tapped hole, not a coarse 1/4-20 hole. Confirm the thread pitch in your lug or coupling body before ordering.
2) Is the JSS142838SS set screw a cup point or a flat point?
Cup point. The JSS142838SS is a cup point socket set screw, which bites into the mating surface and resists backing out under vibration. If you need a non-marring hold on a finished shaft or a soft conductor, a cup point is the wrong choice.
3) What driver do I need for the Metallics JSS142838SS set screw?
It's a socket drive, so you'll need a hex key (Allen wrench), not a screwdriver or a nut driver. The head is internal, which is what lets the screw seat flush or below the surface of the part it's threaded into.
4) Can I use the JSS142838SS set screw outdoors or in a damp electrical enclosure?
The JSS142838SS is a stainless steel set screw, which handles damp and corrosive environments better than a plain or plated carbon steel screw. Metallics sells it as electrical supply hardware, so it's the sort of fastener used in lugs, connectors, and enclosure hardware rather than structural work.
5) How many Metallics JSS142838SS screws come in a jar?
They ship 100 per jar. The jar pack is how Metallics bundles these for a service truck or a shop bin, rather than loose counts, so a single order gets you 100 pieces of the 1/4-28 x 3/8 cup point set screw.
