Metallics JSS52434SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a cup point set screw used for versus a flat or cone point?
A cup point like the JSS52434SS bites into the mating shaft or bus and resists loosening, which is what you want for a permanent set on a shaft, collar, or grounding connector. A flat point is the choice when you do not want to mar a hardened or finished surface, and a cone point is for a pre-drilled spot in the shaft where maximum holding is needed. Cup point is the general-purpose default.
2) What drive do I need for the Metallics JSS52434SS set screw?
It is a socket (hex key) drive set screw, so it drives with an Allen wrench, not a screwdriver. There is no external head to grip, which is what lets it seat flush or below the surface of a collar or lug.
3) Is this Metallics set screw suitable for electrical connector and lug work?
Yes. The JSS52434SS is catalogued by Metallics as an electrical fastener, and a 5/16-24 cup point socket set screw in that size range is the type used to clamp conductors in lugs, set collars, and secure hardware on electrical assemblies. If you are replacing a lost set screw in a connector, match the 5/16-24 fine thread and the 3/4 inch length to what came out.
4) How many Metallics JSS52434SS set screws come in a jar?
They ship 100 to a jar. The jar pack is handy for a van or shop bin where you are pulling one or two set screws at a time rather than a job lot.
