1) What does thread cutting mean on an 8-32 screw, and will it work in a hole that is already tapped?
A thread cutting screw has a cutting edge that forms its own mating thread as it drives, so it will start in an untapped or partly obstructed hole in sheet steel. It also runs into an existing 8-32 tapped hole, which is why electricians keep them for boxes where the original thread is painted over, burred, or stripped from repeated service. 4) Do I need a Phillips driver for the JPMPF84, or is it slotted or combo?
Phillips drive only. The head is a pan head with a Phillips recess, so a #2 Phillips bit is the driver for it. If your crew is standardized on slotted or combination head device screws, this is not a drop-in match for that driver setup even though the 8-32 thread is the same.
