Metallics CSF20SS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need an anchor shield or plastic plug with these concrete screws?
No. A concrete screw anchor like the CSF20SS threads directly into a drilled hole in concrete, block or brick, so there is no sleeve, shield or plastic plug to set first. You drill the hole and drive the screw, which also means it can be backed out and the fixture removed without destroying the anchor hole.
2) Will a flat head concrete screw sit flush with the surface of a bracket or strut?
A flat head will seat flush only where the hole is countersunk to match. The CSF20SS has a flat head with a Phillips drive, so in a countersunk hole the head finishes level with the surface; through unchamfered sheet metal or strut it will stand slightly proud. For flush mounting of channel, plate or door closer shims, countersink the hole or pick a hex washer head instead.
3) Can I use these concrete screws outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
The CSF20SS is the stainless version of the 1/4 x 1-3/4 flat head concrete screw anchor, which is what you want for exterior walls, parking structures, pool rooms and wet mechanical spaces where a plated carbon screw would rust at the head. For dry interior concrete, a standard plated finish is usually enough.
4) What are 1/4 inch concrete screws used for on an electrical job?
They are the everyday masonry fastener for mounting conduit straps and clamps, strut and channel, junction and pull boxes, panel backboards, device boxes and light fixture brackets to concrete, block and brick. The 1/4 x 1-3/4 flat head Phillips size covers most of that work, and a 100 piece box is a typical cart quantity for one build-out.
